I think first of all you should to start with html because html is basic of programming language and then after start c++. If you want to get more knowledge of any programing language then hire best programmer or institute.

Don't listen to this guy---^. First, he can't read previous posts so he's unable to follow a thread. Second, he thinks HTML is a programming language which couldn't be more incorrect. It's a fundamental errors only a raw amateur would make.

If you just want to learn very fast, then any modern language is good to go and VB is easy.
If you want to have strong command over your programming skills, then better start of with C and then check others.

You must start with something that easy to understand and improve your logical skills. Many people concider C and C++ as their starter packs. The reason behind this is the not because C and C++ are easiest of all, infact they are the most hard ones out there if you go deep, its because, those languages are good enough to understand the basics of programming fundamentals.

Once you get an over view of how your computer works its easy for you to write the logics in any language the only difference comes with extensibility. Rest is what your brain can do.

Hope this might give you some confidence.

To start learning programming, you should learn C programming language firstly in order that you are familiar with the structure of a program, how to use statements (Loops, Conditional statements, ...) and get familiar with struct which is quite similar to Object oriented programming and then you should learn Java or C++ to work with Object Oriented Programming because you said that you want to learn Desktop app development. However, in my opinion, I prefer Java to C++. Good luck to you ;)

Javascript. Because its the most popular client side language and if you want to be a web developer you must know it. Javascript is similar to other server side languages if you decide to segway from it.

According to me,it would be wise to learn C to get your foundation strong.Java also derives its syntax and programming concept from C. For web programming ,you can start with PHP.

I think C++ should be a must for every programmer to learn, BUT I think it may be a little too much for a beginner. I would say C# may be better.
