I need your help in deciding the best position for my website's pay per click campaign. I was under the impression that the top position was the best position as it was considered to be the most relevant search result as per the keyword. But while I was doing a little bit of homework on pay per click campaigns, I came across a blog which spoke on how the top position is now being ignored by the users considering it as paid searches which might not be relevant. My keywords are extremely focused and relevant to my website and I wish to see good results of my pay per click campaign. Should I still opt for the top position or should in consider biding for the top positions that appear on the right hand column of the SERPs.
It's the best that you put your ads on the top. Visitors will easily noticed the ads if it's on the top.
top positions are the best, but sometimes you will get clicks because people will click just for the sake of it to see what's on the website. I would say if you get 4-6 positions then it's good, cuz most of the times search engines put the top 3 ads on top of the search results and then the ads from 4-whatever are put on the right hand side. In other words, if your ad is position 4, it will still get position 1 on the right hand side.
you're going to get a lot of different answers here. some say 1-3 are best, some claim 5-8 are best. the truth is that you have to find which position is best FOR YOUR ADS. test your own ads at different spots and you'll get your answer. there is no global best position for all ads.
Wavetowake is absolutely correct. My website (www.aselabs.com) has ASE Adnet's ads running at the end of the reviews and that generates the most revenue as opposed to over the fold. The reason is that most people reading product reviews jump to the end anyway. It is all how your site is read by people.
Well said. In my experience, the return you get based on position preference really does depend on your industry.
yep - test, test, test! and try a bit of 'smargeting' too - have a go at changing ad types themselves to see if they attract users more than your current ones. You'd be surprised what a real difference this can make.
I would also have a warning on certain ads. It really depends on your website. My site is focused on the readers so the ads are very unobtrusive and provide an added service at the same time. Showing flashy ads all over your site might get you clicks, but there may be some readers that shun your site in the future. It is all about your goals and a healthy balance.
not always true. you have to position optimize. try all the positions from 1-8 to see which ones convert the best. sometimes people who click ad #1 are more of a "browser" instead of serious buyer.
I've seen a slight change such as changing from a well blended color scheme to contrasting give a large boost on some sites. It all depends, that's why experimenting really can't hurt in the long run.
y at postion 1. there is always chance to get more clicks but conversion ratio is too low. put urself between 2-5 thats help a lot becouse normally one choose to open 3-4 websites to get beter offer. moreover price bis at 2 postion is substantial lower than postion 1.
