this is the question...i would like to hear only working methods and tested ones if possible and please don't tell me about social bookmarks...as the last update revealed that those are dead by now..thanks

sites with high page rank that allow you places to leave your links (ie: techcrunch, mattcutts blog, etc)

Yes directories are still good in getting more backlinks to your site and very easy to do. The links are not the best, compared to being linked on similar niche sites. If you just want an easy way to increase your backlink count then buy directory submission service that allows you to use multiple titles and descriptions. The links will come in as the search engines fine your listing. I would not rely on directory links as your main source of backlinks, but it is another easy method that has an effect. You can also look into article directories, submit articles related to your site and have your links in the bio box at the bottom. Just remember not to submit the same article that you have posted on your site.

Sponsoring or making your own templates related to your niche, encrypt your url in it and offer it to download for free.

We have used directory submissions for years now and have compiled a database of their links. http://www.catanich.com/directory-list.asp . After this last update, ~360 of the 4,000+ are now listed in Webmaster Tools gut our page rank has not moved. Most of the links are on PR0 or graybar pages.

If a link does not pass some PR then what good is it rally?

    http://nbridges.com/seo_tips :)

    Few tips -
    1. Avoid Link brokers
    2. Avoid sites which are heavily selling links as the site will soon be penalized, losing its PR and you will be losing your link value

    hi,

i would think forums, blogs & article carry weight for good backlinks. it takes time to develop. but personally wouldnt recommend directories as you dont see much from them in terms of increased Pr it just becomes stagnant.

you can get links from anywhere, directories, blogs, forums, SB's sites relevant to yours etc, the hard part is searching the net for them. if you have an industry body like RICS try getting link from them or charities like oxfam.
