Hi, I am promoting a software website, but between "software" and "softwares", which should I choose, if I use keyword "free software", can i have lots of visitors! thanks.
Grammatically, "software" itself is a plural term. So "software" would be appropriate. However, to get traffic you should research the keyword (month searches) using Google Keyword Tool, and also the top 10 competitors on google for that keyword. Also note that, it would be very hard to rank for 2 word keyword like "free software". You should look into using more longer phrase keyword (3-4) or promote a particular software. That's my suggestion though.
I agree with cerontek that you are unlikely to get very far with a keyword as generic as "free software" and that it needs to be extended. I just keyed it in and there are 315,000,000 results, to get anywhere near the top of that pile will take some doing.
Definitely try to use longtail keywords as your focus. That is a very competitive category and you are competing with true giants like CNet, Brothersoft, and Softopedia, not to mention all the experienced webmasters who may be smaller but still are formidable foes. As for the comments about not using "softwares", that is just silly. Saying it isn't a real word and that software is both the plural and singular is irrelevant. Check Google Keyword Tool, over 40k global monthly for that specific word. "Free softwares" gets over 12k global monthly. "Download softwares" gets over 5k global monthly. Those are all numbers from exact searches, not broad or phrase. You care about getting organic traffic, and there is organic searches for words that are incorrectly spelled and words that do not exist. I am not advising you to target those keywords, you will need to research keywords and competition for yourself. I am just trying to make the point that to cut a word out of your SEO campaign just because it isn't spelled right or just plain isn't an actual word (according to a dictionary) could be a missed opportunity.
You can also us download free software as keyword, it has less competition as compared to free software.
The bigger the keyword the lesser the competition. So, to start with, try targeting keywords like "download software for free", "site for free software download", etc. Try to understand that you must not start targeting the most competitive keywords in the beginning, cause results will be too late to frustrate you.
Try many different variations. Softwares is not a word, but that doesn't mean and people aren't searching for. You should not be concentrating on just one keyword. You need to find many many keywords for your site, some that have low competition and not as many searches and some that have more competition and more searches. You will rank for the low competition keywords first and then as your site grows stronger, you should be able to rank for some of the higher competition/higher searched keywords. It's always a building process. Don't limit yourself.
shold be choose free software, because only software in not correct targeted keyword, if your website provide free software.
Just as the above posters have mentioned, you would be better using a longer tail keyword, either that or be prepared to do a lot more to drive your site to the top of Google. Can you use the name of the software for your website? If there are enough searches for it and the creator/s of the software allow then you would get VERY targeted traffic by using the actual name of the software in the domain. Hope that helps a bit. Regards Polly.
free software can definitely bring you much traffic if you make proper and effective SEO work. It is a popular and hot word!
Software returns 5,520,000,000 pages and according to adwords 151,000,000 monthly searches with medium competiton. Free software returns 317,000,000 and according to adwords 16,600,000 monthly searches with medium competition. How are you going to get these words on the first page of Google? Directoty submissions?? Forum postings?? It is really hard to crack keywords like these.
Most people who do business on the internet want to maximise their incomes from AdSense as well as providing a good user experience to their visitors. The highest income comes from the best paying AdSense keywords; in other words, the more an advertiser pays for a keyword, the more the publisher receives when one of their visitors clicks on a link.
For all I know about Adsense that may well be true, but how does it help the OP decide which keyword to use?
