I always get my job done on getafreelancer.com, but if you want to watch the people while they do your project try odesk. this site mostly freelancer with hourly rates. Elance is tooo large for small projects. Other good sites: guru, rentacoder

very interesting thread, personally i have had bad experience with getafreelancer. As other guys mentioned above there are lots of very poor quilified "1-man-army" specs. Personally i agree with amf-flt and prefer to stick with a local freelancer platforms as it is easier to negotiate and solve any problems for both client and freelancer. By the way, can somebody suggest some similiar freelance platforms or classifieds portals in the UK?

There are a lot of outsourcing / freelancing websites such as odesk, elance, getafreelancer, geatcoder, Vworker. All of these outsourcing website are real and authentic but as a beginner, I think you should start with elanc which is the perfect place for getting the job. Best of luck

I say elance works best, just make sure what your work would be. Everything professionally done, I just do much of it myself, then give it to people who have great portfolios.
