    I have used some of them and stuck with phpBB. Used Yabb years ago and went to phpBB since Yabb didn't have some features I wanted. Afterwards I started working on phpBB and I have used it for 5 years already. LOVE IT. I have tried SMF, but I dislike it, so won't bother again, I use myBB in a forum, but I already got stuck since it doesn't have the hacks I need.

    I use phpBB for a long time. It's easy to mod and skin, the code changes upgrades are easy and the hacks I installed work great. And since I won the "phpBB of the Year 2006" title on phpBBhacks I'm even more in love with the script :D

    1. make sure that the theme is for the version you're actually using

    2. use the attached utilities to fix the paths: upload them to your forum root directory and run them from your browser

    Well...I found out what I did wrong..I needed to have a directory that was already named for each theme before installing....then I had to go and upload the images separately...that kinda sucks.
    I don't like SMF much I don't think.

    Anyways, I decided to delete SMF and try phpbb. But now pages just die out on me with phpbb :(

    Is there anyway to add my own background image for each whole page?

    Actually, it would be a black background with javascript stars but I think that might not be such a great idea even if I could do it..take up too much system rescorces...but I do want to change the background to a starry space background if possible.

    Anyone know what kinda forum this is: http://forums.catholic.com

    Besides the colors, I like it for some reason.

    http://forums.catholic.com is vBulletin... without the copyright acknowledgement. I wonder if it's legal....

    Addendum: It probably is. That is a HUGE forum!

    That depends on the theme you use and the software you use, etc.

    First, decide on the software and the theme you want to use. Then ask the question.

    Yeah I went lookin' around and I see what ya mean..I found a nice modded skin I like and I will mess with it further to add my stuff and I think it will do just fine.

    What I am having a prob with now tho, is installing the easymod.

    I can't get it to install right and looked all over then net searching for a fix and I thought I found one with some guy who said he made a free hosting fix to easymod ..but I tried it as well and it still has this one error.

    Critical Error: Unable to complete writing of post process file.
    Function Trace: main[4]->

    Any ideas?

    I went as far as to uninstall the whole phpbb forum and start from scratch...if it has something to do with permissions I am not too familiar with how to set them.

    I AM using a free webhosting service and maybe that is still the problem but not sure it's 110mb hosting I am using with my own domain name.

    This mean anything to you?

    Permissions: (including system errors)

    read access :: OK
    write access :: No
    root path write :: OK
    chmod access :: unattempted
    unlink access :: unattempted
    mkdir access :: unattempted
    tmp path write :: No
    FTP extension :: OK
    Safe Mode :: ON
    copy access :: OK

    Check with the phpBB forums. You are trying to install into a directory without write permissions (I haven't used phpBB or easyMod for a good couple of years now so I can't recall what write permissions it needs).

    The other issue is your host is running in safe mode - check with the phpBB forums to see what implications that has for what you can do.

    What a big mistake. People are switching off everyday from PhpBB and going for SMF and you choose this dead forum software?!
