I would pay the extra and get VB. Its worth every cent.

 

PHPBB, allthough if you manage to get hold of a free VB licence then your rocking

 

Among free I think phpbb is best as they have large community. You can also check simple machines. Many people praise SMF now a days

 

I do find spammers a bit of a problem with phpBB, but other than that it's pretty good for free. I have also heard good things about Simple Machines.

i think u should use Vbulletin , easily to use , high to security , easily to config , and more if u can discover

 

MyBB is an up and coming forum software that seems to be way better than phpbb.

 

I would say phpbb but like everyone else said save up the $ for VB. It is well worth it!

I've used SMF with good results, but PHPBB is very good too.

I highly recommend smf though MYBB is also good it's similar to vbulletin..

smf - because easy to update and the browse / auto install plugins is great

SMF as well, I use it for my forums.

 

xmb is my favorite out of the free ones.

 

vB is excellent if you have the money but if you need a free equivallent then its definitely SMF in my opinion. Does it all and its package manager feature is really nice, no fiddling around with code to install addons... ALTHOUGH... not all addons work with all templates! But, hey, you get what you pay for!

 

I like SMF it has many professional features and it's also very secure.
