free is not always the best. kaspersky is the best and worth every penny. however, you wanted free, so i would say either; AVG Microsoft Security Essentials
While I can agree with you on AVG, I cannot agree with your suggestion of Microsoft Security Essentials. Check out av-test.org and you will see how inferior MSE actually is. This is also backed up by direct observation in the number of virus cleanings I do with systems that depend on Microsoft Security Essentials as opposed to the other choices. When you are determined to go with a free antivirus program the only two recommended choices are Avast and AVG at this time. If you are not the do it yourself type or tech savvy then I still recommend the managed antivirus choice the most so that you have computer tech support to ensure you don't have problems or that help when you do. But if you are going to go with a paid antivirus other than managed then Kaspersky and Bid Defender are the two most recommended.
If you are going to use it on fifteen machines, you may not be able to get a free one? Imean, I really Iike AVAST, but it requires a free license to use on your personal pc. I guess you could create fifteen email accounts and register each PC Iike that? That would be cheating.... a bit.
I continue to see a number of people that are recommending or saying Microsoft Security Essentials is best. I rarely see an explanation as to why it is the best. Doing a little research you will see that it is actually rated one of the worst and lost its certification due to poor performance from av-test.org. Though I am willing to re-evaluate my opinion given any reason to do so. Until then it is the one I recommend not using through test performance and by personal observation and computers that have been brought in for virus removal needs.
