Prestashop is quick and easy - you just need to change the background / skin of the website. The rest you need to mention in the shopping cart and the tax properties for shipping. OsCommerce is also good though I think it tends to be in .net(kindly clarify my concern). Then there is Zencart and Opencart as well (pretty okay I'd say). Here are some good ones - http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/open-source-e-commerce-shopping-carts-best-of/
Hi I'm using interspire shopping cart but I migrated to solecart ecommerce solution, the support is great they help me throughout the process and they don't keep me hanging. It really works well for me and it is similar to interspire. My vote is for solecart.
Why do you not looking at the competitors in the field you intend to go into and see what eCommerce platform they use? You do not approach and eCommerce platform with the question 'which should I use.....?', you approach an ecommerce platform with the question 'which platform offers the best solution for my customer base and products...' and on that you start your journey.
Yahoo! Small Business has a great E-commerce platform, its not just a cart. It definitely depends on what you are looking for but they have an easy to use interface and many built in features to help with order management stuff, easy to use but also scalable, handles up to 50,000 products, they have more top 500 and 1,000 retailers using their platform than any other out there.
I vote for OpenCart. It's a awesome open source e-commerce software to start an online store - it's quite simple to set up and configure.Besides, it does not take a lot of money. There are many free OpenCart themes also.
It actually depends on your requirements, every platform have its own advantage and disadvantages. We are building eCommerce sites for clients from past around 8 years and have worked on all popular eCommerce scripts based on client's requirements. Contact me at and ill help you out in selecting the best suitable eCommerce script for you.
i never used PrestaShop, but i find that i am hearing nothing but good things about it.. i have onlt always used wordpress.
http://www.mercuryminds.com/blog/xcart-magento-oscommerce/advantages-of-magento-in-the-current-online-shopping-trend . As like I said before Magento is cool and good to run a successful online business. I like the one of the advantage mentioned in the above link as " Mobile shopping sites using Magento ". Very recently I just developed my mobile site with Magento, Hmm it really gave me a good conversion rate.
For a small size site, WordPress based platform is the best choice. Which is low cost and flexible. Try to have a look into: WordPress (http://wordpress.org) + ColorShop (http://wordpress.org/plugins/colorshop/)
For ease of use and incredible customer support you cannot go wrong with Woocommerce. Maybe not the as fully featured as some, but more features is not necessarily better.
The only one I have played around with is PrestaShop and it seemed fine at the time i tested it(2 years ago). I have heard people loving Magento though, and i have heard other people say that it is bloated, the only way to choose the "best" software for you is to try them out and see which one fits your requirements.
WordPress + Woo Commerce rocks! If you are strictly an e-commerce site and large scale (lots of products) then I've heard good things about Magento, but Woo could also handle large scale. I guess it's just preference. I've been using wordpress almost 10 years now so i'm inclined to stick with it.
You will find with most of the open source options that you will either: 1. Need to hire a developer anyway to make it do what you want. 2. Need to spend money on themes or extensions to make it do what you want. 2. is generally the cheaper option. If you plan on doing all of the development yourself Magento can be difficult to pick up. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were already experienced with PHP development. Community help is very limited as well as the owners really want you to move onto a paid version. osCommerce seems to be taking years to bring out a new version and I don't have trust that development will speed up in the future - but the community there was always brilliant. I currently find Woocommerce the best option. The actual cart is free but you have to buy some of the better themes and some of the useful functionality. Haven't had much need of support though so can't comment on that. And finally, Zen Cart - never used it but have heard good tings about it.
