Which according to you is the best directory script except PHPLD. And is there any script that is as powerful as the Yahoo Directory or Dmoz.
Best in what way? It's difficult to suggest when you dont know what another means by best. When you're talking about yahoo directory and dmoz, i dont think you can even include the word script with regards to those two, it's a completely different thing altogether. Obviously two big companies behind those and an army of editors, so it's not really about the script and more about man power and money behind something as big as those two. A script behind anything is only like a frame, something to build on.
okay so what is the best script according to you in terms of features and user friendliness (except PHPLD).
I use both phpLD and esyndicat and second opinion by xc06. Infact new version of esyndicat is available for public beta - visit their forum and check out what is on offer!
You are not going to get a consensus "best script" because everyone has their own preferences based upon what they have used in the past (they are used to it) or what meets their own individual needs. The only way to find the best script for you is to go out - do the work and evaluate them for yourself based upon your project. I would just add to avoid scripts that offer any kind of free version. If a company has to give their scripts away, well it is a reflection on their value.
Ive used and still use PHPLD I used Indexscript, my directories were hacked, put me off, but it was a free script, im not complaining about that. I used Phplynx, im not willing to even talk about it though, sensible for me not to.
I read of some script somewhere whose cost was around $299 I dont remember correctly many people told that it was good script and it was a yahoo like script, I dont remember the name and anything about it. Do you have any idea about what script is that and is it any good.
There are more expensive scripts, could it be possible that $299 is more to do with the price of a yahoo listing? Im not sure which script that could be.
Having the best script does not mean that a directory will succeed. It's all about how you use the features of that script to create a resource. In the end, it's more about the quality of the content. You might want to Google something like "directory script comparison". Do keep in mind, many of the comparison charts were compiled by the script owners themselves and their followers. Compare the lists anyway, they can often tell you a great deal. If three of the charts tout XYZ feature and the fourth does not - chances are good that fourth one is pushing a script that does not offer that feature.
You are talking about PowerSeek script, the same script used by AMRAY and v7n Directories. Customization and administration wise, it will leave in a dust every other script I know but… this is the only script amongst others that doesn’t have payment system build in Submission Form BTW, new PS4 version cost $399.00 but without pay system, in my book, it value is way below $39.99 fastreplies
A script cannot imo be 'powerful', as pipes indicated it's just the medium which will allow your database to be made accessible to the WWW. I'd suggest to focus on the content of your directory, which is the really important element - properly entitled and described sites in relevant categories is what 'makes' a directory, the rest is fluff. Unfortunately too many people think the fluff is more important than the database.
???promotion??? You mean like Gun Company give away free samples to bunch of crazed idiots with hope they will go and shoot somebody? fastreplies
But the 'power' so to speak comes from the ability for the script to help you 'make' the directory. For example the recent script I've redeveloped and re-released in July (SBD Directory Software - link in sig) has filters and a risk assessment to help directory owners review the quality listings and reject the bad ones in bulk. It's made to save a tonne of time, and that's where the power is. Of course, the success of being a powerful directory comes from how they use these tools to create a relevant directory free from spam. @akashvista, shop around and find a script that's right for you. One that has the features you think you will need. Most scripts have usable demos, which I would also recommend you to check out. Try the link in my sig for another suggestion. @fastreplies, SBD Directory Software being new on the scene [or at least absent for 3 yrs] I think it's important to provide a free version for promotional purposes. Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and by providing a free version it's a lot easier to get out there - at least in the initial stages. It doesn't reflect the quality of the software at all - you can have the best script in the world but if no one knows about it it's useless. Now, where can I get these gun samples? Hehe.
