you find a free version and a commercial version depending on the value to be protected
however you need to do your own job first - secure password, removing malware and virus, clean up your entire system, limit access to your computer to YOU ALONE, etc

the first security step is to KNOW your own computer and to KNOW what you DO
the key risk factor always is the ignorant user

I have some bad experience with some malware attacks on my website and my computer used to get infected a lot. I tried a lot of software and I found very useful the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It is also free to use and costs if you want real time protection.

Hi use Bitdefender as AV, with all features on maximum level, also Malwarebytes (wich never find nothing) and ccleaner. My internet connection is on cable, so I use the company router, and between theyr router and my PC, I have another router with an integrated firewall.
And, as Hans said, it's always good to know your machine.

one of my master IT tell me.. he said that.. no one can guarantee the security of a system of 100%, as long as you stay online .. is most likely your system will be hacked easily and quickly. one of the best ways, not just routine for patch the system, but required an understanding of the security system itself and how the solution step.

Avast free is the best, its got real time monitoring and good updates.

They keep up with the underground malware culture which is what you want.

Avir is the best for an Anti Virus IMO. Avira + Comodo Firewall lazers a tiny ant crawling across your monitor. Plus, get malwarebytes anti-malware, it's good for a quick malware scan if you're getting annoying popups etc.

Are you serious? Kaspersky has a lot of false detections, ie:- When you download stuff like c99 shells (which is not a virus, atleast it wouldn't do any local damage), it detects it as a trojan. Get Avira AntiVir.

The "best" security software I think is a good combination of anti virus, Firewall, and Spyware Program
I have used Avir anti virus, commando Firewall, and Spybot for malicious programs. Plus you cannot count on programs to keep your computer from being infected it takes a general knowledge of what can infect your computer and how to prevent downloading infected programs, music, and other typical downloads that could possibly contain malicious intent. Your computer is pron to attack when your connected to the internet so its also good to learn how to properly back up your important information and have your drivers backed up on an external media in the invent of a successful infection

    Nothing beats Prevx 3.0 anti-virus.

Its the lightest and fastest anti-virus program out there. Plus it doesn't need to update, EVER!

Best of all, it finds more viruses than any other malware program around including Norton, Kapersky, Mcafee, etc. The home page will show you a chart of daily viruses they find that no one else does.

It's a resource hog and almost feels like malware itself. I mean c'mon, you have to type a CAPTCHA to uninstall it! ;)
