i think your problem is money. so many users have already suggest .com but you are still unsure. .com is the way to go. the end.
getting a domain extension is depending on the on the site. first you must know what type of services or products your site is all about. second, the targeted visitors.
I'd suggest register .com and .org variant for your domain. .org, .edu domains are more trusted in SEs.
.com should be preferred becuse accessing it is easy just type the website name and press ctrl+enter and you reach there on the other hand .in,.us are preferred in ratings when you search thruogh local seach engine
The only true SEO advantage comes from .edu or .gov, but these are impossible to acquire if you aren't affiliated with education or government work. That said, go with .com - to go with anything else just gives free marketing to the the person who has the same url as you but with a .com ending. If you get mygroovysite.net and someone else already has mygroovysite.com, about 50% of the people who hear about your site will type .com out of habit instead of your .net. In essense, you are giving free marketing to the .com site. The problem is that .com has presence of mind in the public's collective consiousness, so use that to your advantage and get a .com. All the best, Ian C
