Which is better?

Is it better to have a domain name that exactly describes the website content, or (and since that is impossible without spending thousands to buy if from someone else) would I still reap some rewards on the google ladder if I simply added fresh and original content everyday.

I've spent many many hours trying to find a searchable domain, but it's moot. Any thoughts?

I can come up with lots of names using perhaps one of the key words, but not the exact phrase. It's gone in .com-net-info-org etc. I've tried it backwards and it's gone. Added a hyphen - gone. Tried other words - gone. And what really, really annoys me is that these aren't even being used as actual websites, but parked domains. I don't have $100K to buy them. I'm p-mailing you.

If you want to get your traffic from the search engines, then yes, the keywords in the domain is important.

If however you're going to use PPC etc to drive traffic, its not so important.

If you're having trouble, add a word to the domain.

Eg www.gooddomain.com might be taken, but www.thegooddomain.com might still be available and with the right backlinks can work just as good.

It is best to get the phrase that is searched. If you can't you can rank by good SEO.

Thank you, that answers my question. I didn't think a third word would be good, but I really do need two key words in the domain. I suppose I can add something charming and brand a store name. More research. thanks so much.

    You don't need cars.com :D

You can use any domain that makes sense, is quite short, easy to remember, pronancable (word of mouth traffic), and contains atleast one main keyword.

You can use domain name suggestion tool like this:

    http://www.nameboy.com

Or you can buy good EXPIRED domain names with traffic, VALID pagerank and tons of backlinks for 50-100$.

I have site that generates such lists, validates pagerank, ads alexa rank, estimaets traffic, puts domain age (important SE factor).

(no clickable links -> I'm new here)

get a key keyword that you are targetting and add a cool word. for instance if you are tragetting the keyword news, register newsfinder.com. Just make sure that your domain contains one of the main keywords

    Boss73,
There is a consensus. It seems that's the way to go. I'm considering the extra or "cool" word now. It means three words, (urgh!) but I want the two key words in there. When people search the item, they'll search both words. There's no other way to do it.
    Thanks everyone

    Dropsdomains,

    cars.com .... too funny.

According the estibot, the domain I want appraises at $200K. It's parked!! Huh?? And you can bet the owner would want that and more. Very good stats, whatever they appraise it at.

I'll reply with it once I've sorted what it'll be. ;)

I'll have a look at your expired domains. Thanks for your assistance.

    HI

A domain with the keywords of your site in it does help... but if you add new content daily that will also benefit you...

    Thx

Yes, it does matter. A keyword in a domain is considered to be one of the factory in SEO.

If you do not find a domain with the keyword, try to go for a small and decent domain and then use the sub-domains as the keywords to develop the niche site. Sub-domains with keywords are also considered to be highly valuable.

And it will save your recurring costs also.
