I think it is hypothetical. and he wants an answer of which one. As I have already said, I would go for the 50 PR1's
Thanks for all your worthy response. It really teaches me a ton about backlinks And regarding those suggestion that I can have both those links- The reason I came out with this question is because 50 PR1 backlinks cost the same as 1 PR7 backlink. So, I am not willing to pay that much. Instead I would pay to some of these two.
I'll take the themed PR7 link versus 50 themed PR1 links . 50 PR1 links with your desired or random anchor text is good. Although, I need to look at other factors such as # of outbound links on each page. What's more, what if some of those PR1 link pages are linking to bad neighborhoods or recently had their PR devalued. Neither McCain nor Obama can help your cause then, maybe Palin could LOL. With a higher PR link (assuming it lets the robots follow), it helps your site get crawled quicker versus PR1's. PR7 is more authority & considered a leader on certain topics. (tell me if I am wrong here, with examples) . I know some PR5 or PR6's that really have little authority but I rarely see PR7's that aren't a top source (top 25 to 50 for what they want to rank in). But, hey tell me if I am wrong. maybe PR8's are in that category.
You had to go and ruin this thread with politics. Shame on you! Remember this. Today's PR8 is tomorrow's PR7. Your PR shrinks every day if left unattended. I guess there is a moral there somewhere, such as, get links on websites that you know to have staying power.
soild backlinks are the best, but I'd combine both truthfully because most people think about backlinks to boost their own persoanl rankings and build a rich site, but backlinks also bring in people to your site. I think too many people are caught up in rankings and don't worry enough about what they offer in thier sites or how they treat thier readers.
Heather you are right...a mix of low PR on theme and a high PR themed link is best. I believe if you have only a few high PR theme sites linking to you, Google investigates this because it may seem un-natural. A good mix is best. Dodger...yeah that was a mistake on my part. I see your point. I wouldn't want that to happen to me when I start a thread. Back to the topic. I am familiar with one site in a foreign language which has moved from a PR6 to PR7. Do you know of some PR8's that have dropped?
I don't think google ever investigates sites. Think about it...there are trillions out there. Most of the stuff is done automatically by their software.
No I don't. But I was using that as demonstration. It is highly unlikely that any site that had that type of clout to naturally go backwards like that. But let's say that Yahoo went under tomorrow, and people forgot about them altogether in a couple of years. Eventually their PR would diminish over time because people would no longer be linking to them as much. That is just the way PR works. Far better for what? Have you not been reading anything in this thread? They may not investigate, but they do analyze and they do that very well. They have been known to 'eyeball' some pages, especially if they are in their reported spam queue.
One PR7 link can give you a huge improvement in SERPs. I've seen this here on DP in "real time". Four PR7 backlinks moved someone from #300+ onto a first Google page in 4 days or so. It was a competitive term. Not only PR7 link, but also a PR4 link from a page on PR7 site worths much more than "plain" PR4 backlink. 50 PR1 site MAY get more visitors, if linking sites are related.
Agree with a lot of views here, bottom line is one big link with huge PR will help with overall trust therefore giving you a better chance of gaining higher rankings, PR1 if related is very good also, the PR will increase over time on these sites. Regards, EIMG
how do you know this? is there any formula or algorithm to calculate pr link values? would you explain this? it would be really valuable information
There is no exact algorithm that seems to be followed in calculating or comparing different PR's worth is what I have learned here. It could just be an assumption just by his own.
