Which is Better to Optimize for SE, home page or blog post?

I'm curious which is better to optimize for a search engine, the blogs home page or an individual post? While the post is always available on the homepage due to a plug in, but would it make more sense to build these backlinks to the post instead?

 

It makes the most sense to do both. Google looks at the number of internal or deep links as well, and you can also get your posts to the top of the SERPS as WELL as your main page if you optimize everything and build backlinks everywhere.

 

Both are equally important.......Should take care of both otherwise it will not provide the better link juice...

 

You really need to do both to get a successful blog. You can use some SEO plugins to do onpage SEO for your posts, then get backlinks mainly to your index page, but a few highly realted ones to each post page.

Individual Posts are important and need to be optimized, home page is landing page for all posts, so it may not have high relavance with the posts and their keywords.

 

Home page or index page is the better option for search engine because in this way you will be able to index out with home and sub pages.

 

I have found more success in promoting individual pages for particular micro niche keywords. You can't get high ranking for large number of keywords with homepage as it will look suspecious that large number of backlinks points towards your homepage only and not internal pages.

 

Home page should be optimized first and than it sub pages, so Google rank quickly if your index page is first optimized.

 

You should optimize both to get the maximum result. Actually visitors have common interest in blogs as well as sites. So my opinion is to maintain both so that you will increase your chance of winning.

 

Optimize your blog's homepage for your most important keyword. Homepages usually receive most of the natural backlinks so take advantage of that.
Internal pages should be optimized for longtail keywords. That's the natural way to organize the content on your site as well.

 

I suggest to go for bot home page and post page but don't compete your own website for same keyword.

 

Well the home page is ranked front page for the keyword of choice (keyword is my domain). So the post I'm referring to is published as an announcement and kept front page first result (only full text post). I was curious if it would be easier to rank for the keyword by getting backlinks to the post. I'm kind of stuck mid front page and bouncing around a bit. With minimal work put into building backlinks on the post, it has reached top 30.

So it sounds like I should maybe start to build some links to this post now? I've got about 3,000 backlinks on the home page with a PR2 likely to increase to a PR3 or PR4 even at the next update which should be happening any day now!

 

You should optimize your entire Website. Always start with your the pages that are most important to your site's primary content, but don't forget other pages that might be linked to by other sites, search engines.

You have to optimize both... but you can optimize home page first and give 2nd preference to blog post...

 

I think, Home page is very powerful than inner post. home page come in ranking very easily.
