Which is better? Pay or Free directories.

    Couple questions about SEO.

    1) What's the difference between pay and free directory submit. Are pay directories better for your link building?

    2) Is it a good SEO strategy to submit to lots and lots of directories?

    Thanks

    1. Both near enough the same... Free directories you need a reciptoral link... Paid you don't, and you get better placements on some.

    2. Yes link building is great for SEO and improves your placement on google... I spend quite a bit of my time building links. My advise would be to use do-follow link directories :)

    Hello,

    1) What's the difference between pay and free directory submit. Are pay directories better for your link building?

The main difference between paid and free directories is the editorial integrity. Paid directories are often cleaner and the directory owners invest a substantial amount of time and money in promoting and developing their resources. Paid directories tend to have higher placements in serps and most of them list only quality and relevant websites.

On the other hand free directories are very hard to maintain and probably 85% of them lack of editorial integrity mainly due to the large amount of submissions on daily basis. Just look at the Announcements section and you will notice guys starting 20, 50, 100 web directories at once. How do you think they are going to maintain 100 directories with 500 daily submissions each? Don't think that everyone would be happy to submit his travel site into travel category and to have a casino site and a recipes site by its side.
There are very few free quality directories which I would recommend.

    2) Is it a good SEO strategy to submit to lots and lots of directories?

First of all directory submission it is definately a link building strategy. Not a SEO strategy but rather SEM.
From what I've seen lately it seems to be one of the fewest link building strategies approved by Google since reciprocal linking and link trading it is an issue.

I would recommend to submit to web directories, just make sure your site won't be added in a junk resource which won't help you at all.

    Hope this helps

    1) Both should be same but difference in time of approval and concerns. Means if you are submitting your site to free directories then might be possible your approval duration can be 2-4 months and your site can be disapproved without any prompt to you. But in case of paid site they provide proper consideration for your site. After all it is paid.

    2) Yes. Link building is great SEO process. From that you get the no. of backlinks and secure the place on Google’s top page.

You need to look at the directory overall to decided if a paid link is worth it. Any link is better than none.

    1) Better if free because Google hates paid directories

    2) Yes, of course
