Hi all, I am planning to get a new domain. I just wanted to know if the domains ".in" and ".com" make any difference from SEO point of view?
If your content is intended for everyone and you want worldwide visitors go for .COM If you want to focus on a main region, go for a regional domains like .in for SEO. Than again most people think that a domain name ends with .com and previous visitors will most likely type .com if they forget it ends in .in If you can get both and redirect the .com to .in
I'll throw in my vote for the .com AND .in mix, as suggested by jags2ooo: if you can find a deal where you can pick up both at a reduced cost, do it. Most of the big registrars run offers like that because they understand the idea of building for one country but covering yourself for people who assume a .com
depends on the domain If you are going for blueskycompany.com or sky.in then better go with .in If you are going example.com or example.in then go for .com
Go with both. Don't be caught out by those people that assume you've got a .com address and search your site only to find it doesn't show. If you can afford it, buy up the main domain extensions (.net, .com and your country specific). Of course, you could do something cool like buy a TLD that is part of your name. For instance: digitalpoi.nt (if nt was a TLD).
I think it really depends on what the content of the site is. For example, if your business is selling something in India to just people in India, then .in is good. If your site is for everyone world wide, than .com is the best option. .com is always the best (because it is most well known and kind of the "default"). .in is great if you just want to focus on India and an Indian audience. I agree with what abraham26 said; if you write in an Indian language consider going for a .in address.
It depends your target visitor if your site is selling products or services for Indians then you could go for .in for its own benefits but yeah, .com is forever and would really rule better then .in in anyway but most of the good .com's are gone .in are still available and would have good value in near future.
As suggested by others here , if your main target is INDIAN audience & you sell products / goods only to Indians , then .IN is the best suitable domain , but if your target is not restricted to single country & looking world wide audience & sell products for clients across globe , I would prefer .COM Also in future selling point , .COM is always premium than .IN Frankly speaking , if you buy .COM domain & if you are from INDIA , I would strongly recommend you to get .IN as well to protect your business from cyber squatters.
If your website is based on India and targeting indian user then i strongly prefer .in , but if your targeting audience is worldwide then go for .com.
Thanks everybody. I really found all your replies very useful. As suggested by many, I am planning to get both ".com" and ".in"
Do not think much about it in a few year I think there will be no .com or .in everything will just be apps.
I agree with "Jags2000". Because for most of the people commonly use .com as they know that domain name means .com also there are is a shortcut at keyboard that if you press CTRL+ ENTER button then it will go to .com domain. So better go with .com instead of .in
