Is it preferable to host your own blog using a blogging software such as b2evolution or to have your blog at a place such as blogger.com or typepad.com, or wordpress.com, and why? I just started blogging and decided to host it on my hosting account, under one of my domain name, using b2evolution program. I know you can host on Wordpress site or Blogger site and point the blog to your domain name, but I wanted the content and stuff sitting in my hosting account. This is working well for me, but I was wondering what everyone else thinks, and if I should consider putting my next blog on Wordpress or something like that. Just curious to see what everyone thinks.
It seems to be working fine. Bear in mind I'm pretty new to this stuff, so I may not know all the features to expect , but it seems to work pretty well and there are quite a number of options, themes and a support community. I've also seen some plugins on the site but haven't tried any because at this time I just don't need them. Here is a link to the blog I have set up, which as you see is still in the formative stages. It's a personal blog not intended for income or anything like that. The software I am using is b2evolution.net let me know what you think. thanks
Yes, always keep it on your own server. This way you have full control over it. Also, you can add as many plugins etc and manage the blog well yourself.
There are two sides of the coin here . . . Much will depend on your own preference and your present capability. If you are a techie, geek, or nerd I guess you will go for your own . . . but if you are just getting started . . . it really may be wise to be based at Blogger, for example. You can always move on later.
I prefer using free blogging than hosting.. If you want a hosting I go for website hosting not blogging hosting... Blogger is one of the best blogging sites I've ever used...Easy to use....
Host your own, gives you: a. Complete control over ads & content b. A more credible and valuable domain
I also agree that it's much better to have everything on his own server, much more flexible even if sometimes it's more difficult to use for beginners.
I always suggest using one's own hosting. I like to have full control of my sites . Blogger sometimes suspends blogs without any reason..so avoid it. Having own hosting also means better resale value.
I didn't go through the posts above. But curious to know who is that one person who voted for the second option. To who ever it is: Dude, you are missing a lot!
Hosting your blog on your own host gives you some extra advantages, like for instance you cannot have adsene on Wordpress hosted blogs, maybe some other similar services like Google AdSense cannot be availed.... Plus you never know the future, For instance i had a Blogger hosted blog that i kinda lost because the entire Blogspot domain including blogger.com was blocked in my country, and now that my blog is no where to be found in Google, Blogger is unblocked.!!! So be ready for all and dont end up saying Shit happens, but it was not my Mistake - Malcolm1 lolz!
$4/month + $8/domain name is worth the credibility a site gets from being hosted by itself... i find it hard to read blogs taht arent willing to invest that small amount of money
