Unfortunately Joomla is not that SEO friendly, you need to install/ buy plugins for SEO friendly features, but then who wants to keep buying patches?

CMS Sites like Joomla and Drupal are designed for "amateurs" who can't write proper code. Same for Miva, Ruby-on-rails, Os-commerce, PhPMyChat etc...
They are "templates", never easy to modify or adapt to your real needs.
Go further in your design, and soon, you will hit the classic wall: "to do this, you need to buy an add-on module"... and the costs start to rise.

As a final point, surfers "in the know" (and there are a lot of them), will instantly recognize the presence of these templates and conclude (rightly) that:
    1. the site has been designed by an amateur,
    2. the owner of the site is "cheap" (or has no financial resources)
    3. the site is un-reliable.
    Your choice!

So basically, even with the new Joomla 1.5 which say that it SEO-Friendly...
It's not as friendly as Wordpress right

Owning both Joomla and wordpress blogs, I don't notice much of a difference. Joomla is harder to setup and use. IMHO, the seo part is the outcome of what shows when you pull the source of a page, you have a chance of screwing it up with any CMS.

@abercrombie can you show me a joomla site you have glued together with working furls? That has at least one plugin or mod installed?
thanks, if so, I will fire my entire programming staff. To date, I have not been able to make them work. Because they don't!

Everyone who can't/doesn't have the time to/inclination when there are lots of other viable options to code a full-blown CMS is an amateur?

Granted, you have to use plugins sometimes to get the desired feature, but that is simply because one CMS can't do everything and it would be stupid to expect it to, the server space needed would put anyone off.
Unless you're in the webmaster/programming niche, your visitors will neither know nor care what CMS you are using, that is assuming they know what a CMS is.
The CMS has nothing to do with the design of the site.
    Sony BMG use drupal.
A surfer who has no programming knowledge (and there are a lot of them) could not possibly judge the reliability of a CMS simply from the design.

Google likes blogs because their content is regularly updated, and recent content is more likely to be more accurate and relevant to visitors. However, you can regularly update your content with Joomla too, so having a blog or a regurlarly updated CMS won't make much difference.

Both Joomla and Wordpress can be made to be SE friendly, so the question is do you want a blog or a CMS?

Also, I doubt you will have much luck if you want an objective opinion on Wordpress on these forums.

I attempted to use Joomla and just got frustrated. I had one up for a while just for the experience. But overall I came running back to Wordpress and that is with me being an amateur. So yes overall I prefer WP.
