Which is better? .com with a hyphen, or .net?

I'm wanting to register a domain with my first and middle name. Unfortunately, the .com is already taken. I'm considering getting it with a hyphen or .net instead. Which would be best?

    For example: janetmarrianne.net or janet-marrianne.com

    Thanks for your advice!

I this case i would think the .net, - is generally used because it is search engine friendly

It depends on it's use. If it's commercial I'd go with a single hyphen over a .net

If it's for personal use I'd probably go with the .net

Agreed. If your example is true and that you want a name then do the .net.

Yeah, go with the .net, people when remember domains don't usually remember the hyphen.

If its for your personal blog, go for .net, otherwise, go for the .com.

    Get both...

If you can't, take the shorter version of .com.
For example, instead of janet-marrianne.com, take jmarrianne.com

    That's what I'd do if I were you :D

If you can get both then take them, otherwise I would recommend going for the version without a hyphen. Hyphens tend to scare away customers, and make your site less credible in my opinion.
