Before going head and creating my blog (on our own server) I thought it would be better to have some feedback beforehand.

I am not so sure having a blog as part of my site ie. creativekitten.com/blog or having it under it's own TLD domain name? I know my own preferences, but I am not so sure about search engines front.

My blog has it's own URL and that's worked out quite well for me. I've found that generally, navigation with sites that have a /blog is a pain because I inadvertently go to their homepage rather than their blog homepage.

Well it all depends. Is your blog's niche related to your website niche? If that's the case then I recommend you keep it on the same domain. You will benefit from your existing user base and you don't have to build backlinks for two different websites. We all know building links is a pain so if you can build links that can benefit your main site and your blog at the same time it's great.

On the other hand, if your blog is not really related to your main website, there's no point to keep it on the same domain, give it it's own .com.

Search engine wise it doesn't really matter, you will just have to build links for two different sites instead of one. It can matter if your main site already has a good ranking, your blog will benefit from this ranking as well.

    Hope this helps...

That's a good...and timely question for you to be concerned about. It's definitely good to have this on your own server.

I observed that your .com domain currently has just under a 1000 backlinks (AltaVista and AllTheWeb). Nothing from Google or Yahoo so far but it's a start in the right direction. Alexa ranking is not zooming but definitely making progress....but you still have time to make the decision.

From my perspective it would depend on how closely related the information will be with your blog. Also it's important to recognize that blogs are much more attractive to Google.

What this means is, competitively speaking, if you updated your blog with fresh, good quality content daily or at least 2 to 3 times weekly, your blog would grab Google Spiders' attention on a regular basis. This situation could drive enough traffic to your blog to eventually rank your blog higher than your static website and at a faster pace.

It mostly depends on your business goals....and how much time you have available to focus on developing and feeding a blog. Blogs are about establishing relationships and it takes time. However, the payoff grows slowly at first and then months later you realize you're making more trips to the Bahamas and complaining about the humidity:)

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

Hi guys, I'm sorry but I'm kinda new to this website-building thing. For your analysis of the website like number of backlinks etc, may I know where you get the information from?

Pardon the newbie question. I am a content writer, but have not had much experience doing website. =)

spalsh, you posted in totally wrong thread. Check out to threads first to find the appropriate one to post in or start new thread. This thread is not about "website-building thing"

DocRich, nice feedback. Thanks a lot. Yes, website is new. I put it up on 4th of July 2008. I think Google started to index it. Getting decent back links will certainly take time.

Well it is not matter for search engine.

How well your site or blog is optimized n what kind of links you have?

    so its depend on you.

    Thanks
