i don"t think there are any advantages from using either of them, the blog with the best links and content will win regardless of which software or host you are using.

If you have time, use both.

Self hosted blogger and self hosted wordpress?

I think you are wasting your time there.

Get a wordpress on your own hosting, most importantly get a unique domain, not some blahblah dot wordpress or blogspot dot com.

    Hi Canonical,

Could you please explain why you mentioned the Thesis theme? I'm just curious to discover the SEO benefits of choosing one theme over another.

It's a VERY good theme... Well written w/ SEO in mind. Straight out of the box you can control <title>, meta descriptions, meta keywords for every page on your site. You can have custom <title> or tell it build them using various combinations of sitename, category, postname. You can control whether your category pages, archives pages, etc. are noindexed or not. You can create custom excerpts totally different from any part of the post itself to be used on the home page, category pages, archives pages, etc. You don't need the all-in-one SEO plugin. Most of the control you need from an SEO perspective is already built into the theme.

It's a very well thought out theme in the way it's coded. The base theme is stored in one set of directories. There is a special custom folder under the Themes/thesis folder where you can have a custom.css and customfunction.php. This is where you make any customizations you want to the theme using something called hooks to override default functions for the theme.

When you upgrade the theme to the next release, because all of your changes have been isolated to the custom folder, you can simply backup themes/thesis/custom, upgrade, restore themes/thesis/custom and wallah! All of your changes are now applied to the new version of the theme rather than having to go recode them each time you upgrade.

The CSS for the theme is very well written. It's not buggy like a lot of other premium themes. I am in the process of putting up a blog and spent weeks researching WP themes. I really didn't like any of them that much because there was always something about the themes (even the premium ones) that I thought odd or buggy or just didn't like. But the second I stumbled onto Thesis I knew it was incredible. It has a VERY clean look and feel. You will see the difference once you start comparing it to other Free or Premium WP themes.

So I bought it... actually I bought the developer version of it. I think it was $170 to get the developer version. It was a few days later that I realized that this theme is used by most of the big SEOs... like Matt Cutts, Rae Hoffman (SugarRae), Michael (Gray) Wolf, etc.

I love it. I have my blog running, trying to get enough posts up so that I can turn it on. And I have not had to write even a line of code. I'm using it straight out of the box, and the site looks like I had it professionally done. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a theme.

You can check out some customized versions of the theme by clicking on the thumbnails.

I dont know why ppl are all in favor of wp. I do luv wp when it comes to features. However strcitly speaking from SEO point of view blogpsot.com ranks way higher than wp.

Thanks, Canonical, for the extremely good info. on the Thesis theme. I'd give you a rep but apparently I have to spread it around first :)
