If you have a unique original article, is it better to post the article in a top article directory or a top blog ? Assuming both the article directory and blog have same PR . :)

Maybe post it to your blog, and to an article directory and make the article directory submission link to that page in your blog.

My personal preference would be to submit to article directories rather than the blog. That way your article is more likely to be republished by other websites, generating more backlinks.

Getting link from article directory is more worthy than blog, imo, especially if it is from directories like ezine etc... Not only you get backlinks, but also you will get targeted traffic which can be better monetized :)

In the long term posting in your own blog is better. You got a lot more control ;)

Don't choose, just do both. Put the article on the blog, rewrite it and then submit it to the article directories.

I would also recommend submitting the same on Articles dirs. Form there we can expect more quality links for our websites/blog

Both are better. As both will get visitors for your content. But just do one thing, add link of blog in article and vice versa. :)

Both are important and also have their own importance. If you are neglecting anyone then backlinks may be decreased.

Blog can bring more traffic and that traffic could be instant. Look at it this way:

Ezine has an Alexa rank of 660 or so - it's a high traffic site. but even if your article there gets published, it will get lost among thousands of others. You will get some traffic, but only a very small fragment of what that site gets.

Now imagine you publish a post on a blog with alexa rank lower than ezine (let's say 20 000) which is still a super high traffic site, but less traffic than ezine. However your post will be read by all the traffic that visits that site and it will be seen instantly. No article directory can give your content such exposure.

muncle has a good point but personally I would submit the article to an article directory.

I agree with muncle that a high ranking blog can generate lots of traffic but ultimately the best option is determined by your overall objective for the article i.e. generate traffic or generate backlinks.

If you want traffic then posting to a good blog will certainly do that and in the short term (while the article appears on the homepage) you will benefit from a high PR link but as the article moves through the blog, link PR will usually diminish unless you are lucky enough to find a blog that retains PR for deeper pages.

Submitting to multiple directories will generate some traffic but multiple links (although predominantly low PR).

An alternative to the previous options would be to use the content on something like Squidoo or hubpages.com. I currently have a hubpage for Wii Balance Board Games which is PR4 and a valuable backlink. In this instance I did not submit this content to other article directories as hubpages favours unique content in its ranking. This hub also sends me loads of traffic as it ranks well in Google so this particular example is the best of both worlds, traffic and a valuable link.
