Which is better a link, blog post or website review?

If you had to pick from a text link, a blog post (with 2 anchor links) or website review (with two anchor links) from the same website (assuming all stay permanently on the site), lets say a PR3, and could only pick one which would give better results?
Would one give better short term results and then fizz out, and if so, which would be best over the long run?

I agree. Website review could be crawled frequently because of the links inserted in content.

I'd pick the blog post. I've never read a web review page and tend to think people are like me *shrug* I'd not really call it conceit on my part, I've asked a lot of my friends, and they all read random blogs and most have never even visited a review site.

So with that, I'd say that a blog post beats a review, at least in the eyes of the reader...

Though, there are things to take into consideration such as traffic and relevance. Though, I guess if all things were equal accept the difference between a blog & review, I'd still go with the blog...it's what I do :D

It all depends on how the site is structured. What's the use of a review / blogpost if the crawler isnt going to get to it.

I remember a few years ago every single time I searched for a software product a "top 10 review" site would appear. Like Qryztufe I tend to ignore them but would think they'd get crawled more because of the content.

That's interesting that no one went with the home page link (blog roll) and most everyone would prefer a review. Maybe everyone misunderstood me. The text link would be a homepage link. The other two would as usually happens be on the homepage until knocked off by other posts or reviews and then be a permanent post in the archives. Would you still take the review or blog post or go with the permanent homepage (blogroll) link? Which is worth more for traffic and rankings? Which is most cost effective?

If it is a website with great traffic and readership, then my ranking would be 1. review 2. blog post 3. link
But, if it is not that big a site and the linking is just for google juice, then it would be 'link' at number 1. Having one at the sidebar means you will have as many inbound links as the number of pages that website has and that will be better, IMO

i totally agree with him in this context generally people do get attracted to the reviews first and then to blogs or links...

I would go for both if you want, and you could also use the RSS feed from a blog to update content for your website.

There are two aspects to consider here,

First - Page Rank scores from blogs are lower, google tells you this on their website. Having a review for your website on a seperate site on another webserver is much more effective for backlinks since the chances are the review site will have a highter PR.

    HOWEVER

Blogs have their own search facility and a community which can help

For instance search in google for blog:<search term> it will only search blogs, giving you much less competition for a top spot on the rankings. While this may not seem like how most people search there are many blog tools which browse via google using this search string. It is a resource that should not be forgotten.

Not only that but Blogger.com has a most recently updated blog list, as do many other blog services and tag searches, which can often bring your blog out of obsucrity if you tag each post correctly.

A website review would be better. Keywords are always essential and can be replaced ever so often. Title is just as vital. But you must learn to self promote your blog as well and get a deceint follwing. Look at Shoemoney, Chow, Matt Cutts and a few others. Cutts blog is geared to Google which is understandable. But than yo have Shoemoney and Chow. Their posts are internet marketing geared with a few minor posts to keep interest up or just to vent. A text link will not give you that kind of following unless you have a popular site and even than how much traffic will it bring in? The keywords on a blog post are more searchable than a text link.

Visitors value more then links, and site review will probably bring more visitors then other two methods.

If it's a spam "blog" with all the paid posts it doesn't matter much in my opinion....

What would be the best for a rankings boost for 2 or 3 keywords that are medium competative? Which would give the quickest boost? Which the longest lasting? Lets say a website is PR4, quality with over 100 pages of quality content - what would be the price one should pay for a review? blog post? or blogroll or sidebar link? Also what about an article with links? Would this trump the blog post and review?

def. the website review in my opinoin..that or the blog link...A sitewide text link may help you as far as Yahoo and MSN are concerned, but not for google. Anyways, out of all those I think the website review would bring you the most traffic and look the best
