You should test which position will bring you more sales. 1-4

Not sure that I'd agree with that...

First position will get you the most clicks, and as a result the most sales.

But you pay more per click, and as a result, each sale will cost you more.

So you have to work out the most profitable position for you, based on your profit per conversion and the number of conversions you get in each position.

There's no 'most profitable' position in general, it's unique for each keyword.

And it can change every time your competitors change their bids or adverts, or you change your adverts, so you probably need to recalculate your adverts' sweet-spot from time to time...

I blogged about this a few months ago - read this if you want more info...

I think position no 3-4 is most profitable , because people have the tendency to look furthere like when you go to market you always prefer mid shops if they selling same products. Am i right?

    Sigh...

It may be for your campaign, but don't you think that it may be different, depending on how much you have to bid to appear 3rd or 4th???

Position 1 usually gets the most clicks however there is lots of good debate that says that position 2 and 3 are better at conversion.

The reason put forward is that people tend to pick the top ad if they aren;t really sure what they want but if they pick a lower ad then they are obviously reacting to something specifically in the ad.

As I learned in Adwords Miracle, position 3 and 4 are better. It was one of Chris numerous experiments. First position get a lot of clicks and not that many sales, because people aren't decided yet... They are just browsing.

Position 1 is good IF you have deeep pockets.

    Listen to CustardMite.

There can be no blanket statement made on this subject of Adwords. It's impossible.

    TEST.

    Cheers

We have always had the most "clicks" in the first page. However, it seems like pages 4 or deeper, potential clients are really looking hard to find what we offer. For us the higher conversion ratios seem to be higher after page 4 but before page 7 or so. I would guess each market differs.

The best position is the one that produces the highest ROI.

    Can't agree with that...

Suppose you make £10 profit per sale (excluding advertising costs).

In position 6, you pay £5 per sale, and generate 30 sales per day.
In position 7, you pay £4.50 per sale, and generate 25 sales per day.

    Position 6 has an ROI of (£300-£150)/£150 = 100%
    Position 7 has an ROI of (£250-£112)/£112 = 123%

    Position 6 makes a profit of £150
    Position 7 makes a profit of £138

I know which position I'd rather be in...
