Have a look in following points ....
· Focus external link building efforts on the acquisition of editorially given links. These are links requiring human intervention and approval.
· Build links that are relevant – on pages where the readers would have a genuine interest in your website.
· Quality trumps quantity. A few links from high trust/authority websites will have more impact than hundreds of links from "Made for Guest Posting" blogs.

 

That depends on the niche you're site is in and the competition of the keywords you are going after. But in general, links and referrals from niche related High PR sites have always been the best one though they are hard to get.

 

I own an ecommerce site that sells BMW parts specifically, we do a lot of our link building on BMW forums. We throw a link in the signature and also sponsor forums so we can post relevant links when other members are searching for parts.

On top of that, we have done some guest blogging for backlinks and directory submission in automotive directories.

Mainly with forum posting we have gotten ourselves to the #12, #34 spots in google for 2 very highly competitive keywords that each get about 4,500 searches per month.

 

Blog posting is also awesome for traffic and for rankings. We do blog posts on DIY/How-To Repair Guides for BMW's and they really help drive a lot of traffic to our website because people will naturally link to them, and they also rank very well in google which brings a lot of traffic to our website. Say we do a guide on "How to Replace your Water Pump" or something of the sort, we then add links in there to the Water Pump part that is needed which helps bring in sales for that product.
