planing on buinding a social networking site . . .the dot com for the domain I would like is already taken. What would be the next logical choice that would add value to the name? .net or .org
If I were you, I would buy both and then redirect .net to .org. However, if your social networking site is non-profit site then you should go for .org.
.NET in my opinion but I would also take the .ORG just to keep it for your name. One of the sites I have I registered .ca .com .net. .org and .info mainly because I was bored but also just to keep it mine.
when I decide on a domain name...I buy .com....org...net....info...I often get .info becuase it is so often for sale at 1.99... I would strongly suggest choosing another domain name though...so many people just use .com that you would lose some folks...but if you really don't want to do that...buy all the rest like someone said before and forward to the .org if you are a nonprofit...and .net if not...
I can see why buying the other exts would be a good investment. sounds like .net is the next logical choice. particularly I hope to build the site where my members consider it an association.
If you want to make a brand out of your site, I suggest that you find a name that's available in .com, .net and .org and take them all.
i suggest in getting the .net, then get the .org and redirect to the .net domain.. i'd say thats a good choice..
if I were you, I would think of other name and buy the .COM, you do not want to bleed your hard work to someone who had registered .com of your name. so think over the name, and put in your hardwork in the .com, so my advice, start with .com!!!! you are already putting your hard work at risk, if i were you, i would always start my hardwork, especially SOCIAL site with .com Good luck, although after .com, I would go for .net
