Which HTML and CSS Editor do you prefer?

I have started to design the first websites using Dreamweaver but after some time I realized that this application is too heavy and I didn't use the most of its tools at all, I have just written HTML and CSS totally manually in it. I never used that WYSIWYG function at all.

I never liked to use WYSIWYG Editors at all. They often add excess html code and we never have full control over our design.
HTML and CSS are quite easy to learn so it is much better to write down just pure code.

Some time ago I downloaded Notepad ++ but I was not convinced to it at all. It was too simple for me.

A couples of days ago I downloaded free HTML editors: kED and PSPad. They are also very light and colour code syntax and format code appearance. That's shame they are not able to validate HTML and CSS code.

I will start to use them and I will see how they will work.

I am very interested what HTML and CSS you prefer to use. Please share your opinion about it with everyone here. Best regards to everyone here:)

I have also not been convinced by Notepad++, for the exact reason you gave.

The code editor in Dreamweaver is still the best in my opinion. It suggests and closes tags for you as you type which really does save time during development. The code editor is the only part of Dreamweaver I use and sometimes I get a little OCD because overall the application is very bloated, but I am yet to find a lighter alternative.

I will check out kED and PSPad, thanks. :)

I have used a lot of editors some have better features than others, I am currently using coda its probably the best for me at the moment the FTP and snippets are handy features. Take a look into Sublime text 2 its really good.

I totally agree with dlb about Dreamweaver which is really very bloated. Maybe I use 10% of its resources and tools. As I said I just used code editor only nothing else because I don't like its WYSIWYG functionality. I am not sure whether Dreamweever has any code validator and it is able to check code syntax. If yes, it would be useful its feature.

It has, and it's really easy to use to. Just go to "File » Validate » Validate Current Document (W3C)".
@OP, Dreamweaver is the best editor out there, if you're wealthy enough to afford it.

The good thing now is you can download Dreamweaver using Adobe Cloud verses buying the entire Adobe Master Collection suite. I prefer manually writing code - I'm learning as well - in Notepad++.

I also prefer writing code manually using code editor. I don't like Notepad ++ because no option for formating code and no other features for reminding the tags. Maybe I will stay with Dreamweaver or I will use that simple editor I recently installed.

I think dream weaver is always best and I use it for mine. It's really easy to control i think. and I'm doing work with that since last 2 years.

Well, I have checked both editors: HtmlKit and PHP editor and both are scored less than that one I had mentioned PSPad so I don't think it is worth to try them. So I will stick with this PSPad editor then.

The main problem is that none of them has not actual code validator. Even Dreamweaver has not. I have checked it now. My Dreamweaver CS4 checks code against HTML3.2 which is a little old.
