Hi folks, Those pantywaists at Godaddy suspended one of my hosting accounts because someone sent them an email stating that I had a piece of copyrighted material on the site. They received the email yesterday. They suspended my account this morning without ever notifying me first of any dispute. I was at work, so I didn't discover the site down until 5 hours had past. Customer service can't turn the site back on or offer any help. Godaddy customers are forced to deal with the copyright claims department via email. Another several hours of exchanging email. 7 hours of downtime and counting on a site that averages 12,000 uniques/day. Though I think the claim bogus, I'd rather just remove the pic than make a stand over this. I was going to get a server this week from Godaddy for this site too .. thank goodness I didn't. Does anyone here know first-hand of a hosting company that WILL NOT shut down your account and ask questions later when copyright infringement is alleged? Surely there must be someone that will notify you first before turning you off? Thanks.
Why do you host a 12k uniques/day site on godaddy? That's your biggest blunder. And almost all high-profile/reputable host will suspend for copyright infringement issues.
I've been with godaddy for several years and never had a single issue. Other than this issue, I don't know why I wouldn't be with Godaddy. All high-profile/reputable hosts will suspend for copyright infringement issues without first contacting the site owner? I've never had to deal with this before, but this surprises me. There are lots of large celebrity fan sites out there, and I would expect that from time to time they are accused of infringement. Do they get immediately shut down? I'm guessing no. Thanks for your input.
We provide offshore hosting. You can view our plans at http://www.wrzhost.com We never auto removed a website after we received an infringement.
You need to get an offshore server , we can provide you: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=486396 Thanks.
Yeah, we never auto-suspend. We always contact our clients first, to get their side of the story. Sometimes it can be a mis-understanding and in other cases, it was the client that hired a designer who stole the content.
Every host will suspend for copyright infringement since it is against most countries laws. But, those host should first notify before suspension.
I think that's his point. I'm in the same boat. My host took down my site as I sent too many emails in an hour (I wasn't aware of their limit) and they didn't even email me. Another time I received too much traffic at once and they pulled the plug. It's rediculous.
I'd suggest heading over to webhostingtalk.com and have a chat with a few hosts over there. That forum specialises in webhosting and most people lurking those forums own hosting companies. I am sure they'll provide reliable advice. That's how I found my web host
