I'm with Dreamhost for almost 18 months and never had any trouble (50 sites there).
The problem is that they have many, many thousands of customers, so you can bet that there will be some unhappy ones...

Have heard good things about ASO as well. If your website is just HTML, not database-driven one, you can be fine with Dreamhost. Otherwise, you will face to trouble soon

Always watch out for major oversellers. There's been tons of bad reviews about most. ASO & HostGator do in general get pretty good reviews. But I would check out the others before you commit to anything.
I've always told people to look around and make a list of say a half dozen or so hosts that you feel look good. Check for reviews, both here and especially Google. Ask questions about each host and contact each host with a few pre-sales questions. Contacting them will tell you two things, first, how long it takes them to reply and second, the type of replies you get. Whether it be by phone, email, etc. Get your list down to the one you feel is best for you. Remember, there's no such thing as unlimited and 2500GB's space and 25,000GB's bandwidth for a couple bucks a month is rediculous. Be realistic in your needs and only get what you need. You can always upgrade later, if and when needed.

yeah, with the $97 promo code (here is mine:97HOSTREV) you can get the basic dreamhost account for something like $22 including a free domain so you can test it. I use dreamhost and so far I am happy with them. they have some downtimes (basically power outages) but they are allways fast on solving the problems and post about every problem they have on their blog so you know what is happening. Critical problems are solved pretty fast and is the only shared hosting account I saw that is working in improving things without even asking for it.
Of course it is still a shared account and you cannot compare it with a VPS or dedicated server but it worked well for me ...

I'd also recommend hostgator.com but really it all depends on what you want....
Hostgator is good if you want to run multiple sites but maybe you just want a simple single website? If this is the case why not go for something simple like hostica.com which will only cost you $17 for the year ($12 + $5 setup). I've used them before...admittedly a couple of years ago...but their support and uptime was great.

don't pick a cheap host... overselling is bad.

Always like these links it also includes an affiliate commission! So even if the service are bad the affiliate still cashes in so they can say all sorts of crazy things without the host even coming close to it!
