Which host / dedicated server for my business?

I have a business which, once launched, will generate quite abit of traffic, using tonnes of bandwidth and disk space.

Question is, I have looked around for a host who can handle tb's of data, alot of companies offer the fake "unlimited" accounts..

I require at least 5tb of disk space to start off with the option of expanding and at least 5tb of bandwith a month.
Any reliable & trustworthy hosts out there?

Otherwise, can someone give me the rundown on how I could setup my own dedicated server? Is it basically just running apache on a server with lots of ram and large capacity hdd's?
If someone can help in regards to either option that'd be great! Thanks!

    Thanks!

I had a look at ther dedicated servers, biggest one is the 4gb ram, 750gb hdd (3x250gb) with 2tb transfer...

Are there any out there who will do a 5tb dedicated server?
Or would it be more cost effective to setup my own? If it is, what is involved and how would i go about it?

With that requirements, you should contact with the hosts, ask for custom server. I dont know any one has 5TB disk space by default

What kind of content are you providing?

They would either need RAID setup or some sort of network storage.

Please open a sales ticket over at Alloy Hosting, or start a chat. I think we can cater for you.

Hmm... look more info also from www.webhostingtalk.com. Or simply ask web hosting services for info on how the dedicated works (it's not that much different if you get managed service)

I've been using LiquidWeb.com (for dedicated server) and it has worked wonderfully so far (used couple of years or so). Depends on your budget as well...

Liquidweb are great, they offer managed services too.

Because their services are managed, costs will be very high.

I've used ServInt for a while and they're really good.

However if you need 5 Terrabyte, it might be a different story. My network of sites only receive around 100GB of traffic per month. Still much more than many hosting companies can supply though ;)

You should at least shop around and get proposals and more information at several places. Also look at WebHostingTalk.com or even hire an expert to help you make the right decision.

Well, if the option is to spend time (that's so precious) to make sure server updates, security, and whatnot are in proper shape... I'll choose those bit higher costs :)

If that is what is important to a customer, I would honestly recommend Rackspace. Their support and service is amazing.

Speak to them on live chat, and you will see what I mean.

Prices start from $400ish for the basic of all basic unbranded servers.

Have heard good stuff about Rackspace, although that $400 sounds quite high? I've been using Liquid Web and there it's around $200+ that gets you good uptime & support & whatnot.

It might be good if you look around the webhosting section.

Can barely agreed, just look into webhostingtalk. There's a lot's of good offer out there :)

My advices:take some time while choosing your host, don't be rushed into making decision and based on my own experience, you'll get what you've paid

I won't refer any name since i've never used a dedicated server...

hostgator.. I have never had a problem and their service/support are amazing

    prices are really nice too...

5TB of data to start with? Why don't you start a little smaller, then work your way up once you see if your website gets popular.. theres alway that chance that it will just suck and your 5tb will just go unused...

I have a handful of dedicated servers (including one with a 1 TB Hitachi hard drive) that have been running flawlessly in LiquidWeb's datacenter. Good stuff.

ThePlanet has worked for me in the past as well.

    Hello,

We can do a Dell 1950 Clovertown (Quad Core Dual Xeon - 8 cores)
6x750Gb hard drives (4500Gb disk space)
4Gb of ram (can be upgraded to 32gb ram)
    10Mb dedicated unmetered
    $699/month

or with a 50Mb dedicated unmetered
    $1200/month

The data center is in Charlotte NC and the bandwidth providers are Time Warner, Level3, AT&T, TelCove

Let me know if you have any questions or if this solution would work for you. I can see about a price for 20Mbps connection as well if you are interested.

    SuPrAiCeR69,

Ok, here are a few options for you:
Dell Quad Core Dual Xeon - 8 cores (this is one of the only servers with the expansion needs you have)
    4Gb Ram
    6x 750Gb Hard Disks = 4500Gb Disk Space

    5000Gb Transfer/month
    $750/month

20Mbps Burstable or Capped dedicated port
    $848/month

You could also start out at 10Mbps for $699/month and work your way up if you do not need 5tb of transfer right at the beginning.
Same goes for the Hard Drives, if you do not need all 6 750Gb drives you could start with just a couple and add them as needed.

Give us an email or pm or AIM TVGSupport01 or TVGSupport02 and reference this post and we can work out a deal for you.

A little about TVGHosting? We have been i business since 2003. Our DC partner has been in business since 1997. Let me know if you need any other info!

Steve Pavlina uses servint.. he must receive a lot of traffic being number one on google for "personal development". I've also heard good things about Rackspace.. probably you can get it cheaper than USD 400 if you play your cards right. :)
