Forum owners do so to combat spam, so just like with everything else you need to build up your reputation on the forum first before you can post links.
As I understand from your post, you want to sign up to forums and start posting links to your website... no, it doesn't work and your links will be deleted as spam.

Do you really want to promote your clients in a forum that allows instant links?
Or are you a negative SEO worker?

Oh my! Not all forums allow links and some of these forum sites has good reputation in the industry and restricts putting any links on the thread. It is especially designed for clean and active community.

I've never seen a forum that doesn't allow users to post relevant/informative link in the thread/post. But the link should be highly relevant to the thread starter's question.

You won't find many links out in posts here - our members are expected to give their own take on the subject in the discussion thread.

Not even a single reputable forum will allow you to post links the way you want, link must be highly related if you post it.

I will suggest not to use these forums which allow instant likes. You should go for quality forums and when you are expecting something in return, you should also contribute in these forums with honesty. Write some quality posts and threads and fulfil the forum requirements to get links in signatures or posts. But you still can't add any link in any post, don't share irrelevant links this will be counted as spam.

Good answer, but I am also thinking why would Mr. Steve102 would come here to reply to a 2 year old post? That is also called irrelevant and unnecessary comment, by just saying something which everyone knows.

This is the reason many forum owners have the criteria of minimum posts, I guess it should also have minimum "quality (meaningful)" posts :D

You need to pay attention to those forums and blogs that allow links. Many add the rel="nofollow" attribute to the links, which don't help your site's ranking.

Some forums have advertising section where they may allow you to post your link but it depends upon their TOS.
