Hi JBlox, My answers to your questions are below: 1. Joomla + Hikashop 2. I prefer open source solution with hosting of my choice. I like to be in control of the server, and applications running on it (debian). 3. No 4. Maybe, I have not given it much thought so far due to high shipping costs from ebay and amazon. Hope this helps your research. Damjan
I'm in a ecommerce group and the best one they recommend is Shopify. If you want simple, easy to create hosted ecommerce software, Shopify is the way to go. Get the technical aspects out of the way and use more of your time to focus on your business. When starting out, selling on Amazon and ebay is a lot easier than an ecommerce site because they have done the hard work out by getting paying customers. By having your own ecommerce site you will have to work attracting customers to your website.
Hello I use woo commerce and Wordpress with the Canvas theme, If you have more questions - let me know
1. Zen Cart (osCommerce) 2. Open source. allows you full control and the freedom to customize. has a huge community (like digitalpoint.com) for support. 3. Don’t sell from Amazon or ebay 4. Nope.
I believe you miss one player. All solutions have props and cons as well as decision to go for one. It depends on what you are looking for and how mature is your business- there are some user friendly solutions but friendship ends since you need extra features. Some of them are like old LR Defender- not easiest to drive and you have to used to it, but simply does the job. In case I would advice the most complex one, from one source (not much external modules). It is important to go for solution which does not limit growing- there is no re-platforming need. Cut your business for being professional and to have tools in hands even before you might need them.
If you want to minimum budget of development, i suggest Prestashop, WooCommerce, Shopify. It seem the be easy platform with cheap cost. If you have strong financial resource, Magento will be the good choice for you.
Sometimes with having e-commerce platform is like going to restaurant- you are happy what you get till you look on neighbour plate. Simply having cheap solution with tons of external modules is a bit like gambling.... everyone says it should work but no one will bet own money on that. I am not in position to say it is a crap but I am in a position to say having one supplier of infrastructure for your business is safer. when comes to money safety is first priority- who will guarantee that multi supplier frankenstein will be secure.
I believe wordpress is good for beginners. But I use Magnet as e-commerce platform. I sell products of Amazon and eBay as I am an affiliate.
I used to use all of these platform below, all are open source and each will have its strong points base on your business. Magento OpenCart WooComerce With Magento, I've built for my large customer with need strong and skill in maintenance and customize after deliver. Opencart is only for small/medium online shopping but it also need a skill in customize. WP + Woo is also opensource and I think it's easiest way to use till now. You just need to have an website administration skill to manage. Adding, Editing product or content on it is very easy. I hope this help.
