Which eccomerce cart solutions would you recommend?

    Well there is an amazing array of solutions available, but which would you recommend that are free.

    Also who are they suitable for e.g beginner or competent coder?

    Are there unique features?

    I was hoping to see what others use and like. I'm aware OsCommerce may prove to be a popular choice, but are there any hidden gems?!

    I am using zencart...its the upgrated version of oscommerce. and its working gr8 for me.

    If you are sure you want to wreck your nerves with a free soft, go for CubeCart - it is the easiest (my strictly private opinion), however, if you fancy a challenge, download a free 30-day Actinic trial. After you have tried Actinic, you would never look at any other e-commerce softs.

    If you are a beginner, don't go into osCommerce. It is far from being complete (my strictly private opinion). You will spend lots of time coding, addOn-ing and patching your version. osCommerce is like an iceberg - you miss something and get punished instantly either by a stupid customer or an uncle from Uganda... However, for an experienced developer, osCommerce is a goldmine!

    I would say go for oscommerce, it is among the more established, there are a lot of mods and templates for it.

    Magento is by far the best free e-commerce solution and is in someways better than paid ones.

    listen to me..i've got 5 years of oscommerce experience..choose it..it has all the possible modules in the world, it doesn't take ages to load, doesn't require high server expectations, there are hundreds of templates to buy and customize....A+++
    magento? takes ages to load, it has 60mb, doesn't run on any server, 300$ templates....still in development...etc

    I would strongly agree with you on that. Oscommerce is the way to go, at least for the current moment.

    I have used Zen Cart and Cube Cart in the past and they were very easy to use and alter. Plus they are free.

    I find both zencart & cubecart are simple to integrate with existing sites and to customize.

    cube cart is the most easiest and user friendly, you can try for free and then buy and put your own header et cetera.

    @S2C Will take a look at Magento

    @tanicos looks like OsCommerce is still the leader in free shopping carts

    @ahuddy, bobchrist & mukeshkapoor41 Not so sure about cube cart,looks to me like they have left some flexibility out in order to persuade you to upgrade and pay for the better version. Zen Cart looks a good bet

    Of the 3 big "free" ones, Cube Cart is the most user friendly for someone creating their first cart....my opinion.
