Which E-commerce

I've been using Virtuemart alongside Joomla for a while, but I found it very outdated and clumsy, so I decided to move along. I'm running web shop with few hundred products, therefore I'm looking for a good and easy e-commerce system with beautiful templates. Which one do you recommend? I heard OpenCart might be the best option out there, but some also say that PrestaShop is even better. What's you opinion, what personal experiences do you have?

    Thanks.

If you can export the items I would suggest switching over to WordPress and Woocommerce. If you can get the necessary files you can import everything into Woocommerce. Simple yet robust system.

The OpenCart recommendation that someone gave you is pretty spot on. It's a great eCommerce system... I've been developing sites based it for clients for years!!...

    Hi,

I run a small web design business and I have limited programming experience. I mainly use Drupal for my client's websites. One of my clients had a specific requirement to upload images during the ordering process. He has a Corporate gifting business and wants to allow a customer to upload branding images during checkout.

I tried Ubercart, Drupal Commerce, Magento, Opencart, Zencart just to name a few. I hit a wall with each and every one of them.

Then I stumbled across Woocommerce which is based on Wordpress. It is a free plugin and you also get free themes which you can customize if you have some CSS skills.

It has a wide range of plugins available. I used the Gravity Forms plugin to meet my clients needs.

I've completed the site without doing a single line of code ( Only some basic CSS ).

Total cost for the theme and all the plugins +- $300

I'm already busy building my 2nd and 3rd site.

    Marnus.

I would say that CS-Cart is the best solution for e-commerce. Do not understand, why Magento is better.

Electronic commerce or ecommerce is a term for any type of business, or commercial transaction, that involves the transfer of information across the Internet. It covers a range of different types of businesses, from consumer based retail sites, through auction or music sites, to business exchanges trading goods and services between corporations. It is currently one of the most important aspects of the Internet to emerge.
Ecommerce allows consumers to electronically exchange goods and services with no barriers of time or distance. Electronic commerce has expanded rapidly over the past five years and is predicted to continue at this rate, or even accelerate. In the near future the boundaries between "conventional" and "electronic" commerce will become increasingly blurred as more and more businesses move sections of their operations onto the Internet.

I use Magento to build our ecommerce store. So I recommend that. Its difficult at first but in a day or two you will get the hang of it. There is lots and lots of help online if you get stuck. Just Google any question you have and it should show up in the search engines. WordPress and Joomla are great as well.

Magento is good but isn't easy. If you have small or medium eCommerce business you don't need Magento. This system is perfect for very big shops. As alternative you can choose PrestaShop. It's professional system and have attractive templates.

And which Virtuemart version did you use? Why you think it's outdated?

    Hi
I currently use core commerce for my stores. It is fairly easy to use has nice templates and has tiered pricing. I have been very happy with them. I have however been looking into building smaller ecommerce sites on a Wordpress platform.

I'm trying Opencart because of some issues with Prestashop features. I Would suggest Prestashop for shops which need only a number of alternatives on items but any more than a number of features and it becomes uncontrollable. So Prestashop is great for bookstores, bad for shops with items demanding blends such as customized outfits, technological innovation areas, configurable computers etc.

Prestashop has more segments and a larger group and I would have said better programmer assistance by way of being run by a group, however in my latest encounter, this creates little distinction in exercise.

OpenCommerce is an Open Source e-commerce suite built upon ASP and currently supporting Microsoft IIS and MSAccess/SQL Server databases. So it might easy to manage it. So do Prestashop also a Open Source e-commerce.

But sometime i might think it become too simple while Prestashop also easy to manage and with even have professional and user friendly interface. Prestashop do have more feature compare to OpenCommerce.
