I am about to buy another domain but I don't know which one, maybe you guys could help me out? I won't give you the domain names or keywords of course but I will give you a similar example. Keywords and average searches: (these are just examples) red chilly - 8000 searches Red hot chilly - 700 searches Red hot chillies - 300 searches So which domain would you choose? a. redchilly.com (because it contains the main keyword) b. redhotchilly.com (because it contains 2 keywords) c. redhotchillys.com (because it contains 3 keywords) Of course the main keyword would be "red chilly" but the other keywords would be targeted too.
I put my vote on the redchilly.com. Yes, it contains only one keyphrase but this is the shortest and this way the easiest to remember for your visitors when time come to build a real brand.
I would definitely go with 'redchilly.com'. As BZ said, it is shortest and easiest to remember. You can still target your keyphrases successfully with keyword/phrase-rich verbiage throughout your site. For instance, one of our site's focus is 'stainless steel railings'. We have the domain name 'stainless-railing.com'. However we optimize for every possible variation of the keyword/phrase, and to this point, with a very decent level of success. All in all, it's about your potential users' experience with your site. Make the domain short, sweet, effective, and SIMPLE to remember...this is one sure way to gain visitors and keep them coming back. Best of luck!
I suppose this question can not be answered, because we don't know the real keyphrases. Okay, you posted some numbers to demonstrate the searching volume, but have no idea about the competition. I can easily imagine that plural form will be recognised by google, so unless your website won't be a hub, or something which reviews things I would not use plural. If you stick to the 2 keyphrases go for it, but need to know that seo is only the part of the online marketing-mix, it won't substitute anything and when I ignored the classic marketing directives in the past regarding domain names because of seo I always regret that sooner or later.
