Which domain should I use?

So I've set up a site about a month ago, I registered one domain then and found out that another amazing domain was available yesterday and have just purchased that too. There are pros and cons to each domain, so I'll explain below

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT POST THE TRUE URLS IN THIS THREAD (I do not want this thread to be indexed under my site)

    1) [IMG] - This is the current domain in use.
    Pros
    # .com extension, so will cater to all audiences
    Cons
    # Longer than #2, and overall a pretty long domain in general

    2) [IMG] - This is the domain registered today.
    Pros
    # Apart from the extension, this is the PERFECT domain! It is the exact title of the series, no differences, which is great and easy to remember. How can you get a better domain than that?
    # Will be excellent for a UK audience (where I'm from)
    Cons
    # It's a .co.uk so it won't really cater to American/worldwide audiences (which is what I'm after)

So which do you prefer? Domain 1 or domain 2, and why? :) (remember, do not post the real URLs! just say "domain 1" or "domain 2")
Also, could any Americans that respond please tell me their opinion on .co.uk's please. As a internet user (non-webmaster) Would it put you off? Make no difference? Are .co.uk's harder to remember?

    All opinions are greatly appreciated!
    Regards, John

the .com obvious will be my choice ... first of all there will be a problem of trust . if someone will find the .co.uk domain on the search engine and they are not from UK ,they will not click it.
for UK is better the .co.uk domain ,because is shorter.

And yes .co.uk domain are harder to remember .
And for US traffic is better to have us hosting service and a .com domain.

I would go with domain #1, here's why:
Longer domain names look worse but if you have the whole world open to you rather than just the uk even though you might not get as high of a ratio of traffic to searches (I assume you're just going for pagerank) but you will get more traffic. I would probably always choose more traffic over how you "feel" about the website name.
However, there are quite a few variables that could change things depending on what the domain is.

    Good Luck!

You're right with your two main points that non-uk residents will be unlikely to click a .co.uk listing, and that the .co.uk is harder to remember.

Agreed, the choice is more traffic over my liking of the name. You are also right about additional variables that haven't been taken into consideration in this case, however I wanted to simply everything as much as possible.

    So far then we have:
    2 votes for Domain 1
    0 votes for Domain 2

Thanks so far for all the help! Looking for a few more replies before I come to a solid conclusion.

    John

I agree with the .com. As an American, I don't really ever go to co.uk websites, my european friends even use .com's for the most part. If I want to go to BBC news I go to .com for example, I wouldn't go to a co.uk website unless I had a really good reason to or I clicked it on google.

Domain number 1 for sure, your key phrase. com. I would imagine it to be harder ranking with just "beavis & butthead" vs all other websites that talk about the characters. You will get more traffic. Also do you to think about the fact that "Beavis & Butthead" is a registered trade mark by MTV? they could come after you for it... Watch out for ICE! :)
    Good luck.

Yeah, it's my opinion that us British are used to .com's more too - especially up until a year or two ago (.co.uk's are starting to become more prominent)

Well that's pretty common sense, typing in .co.uk would just be ridiculous. Also, if the site was on the .co.uk domain it wouldn't be a British varient of the .com domain. I do see your point however.

    Thanks!

I'm glad you brought this up, I have arguments that both support and go against this.

NOT INCLUDING THE EXTENSIONS, domain 2 would be considerably easier to remember, shorter to type, as well as much better overall. It would do very well (better than domain 1) for my niche if, for example, it was a .com.

However, ranking comes into play. People that want to view b&b episodes are likely to type into Google "Watch B***** and B*******" (censored for indexing purposes) - this is my exact domain! It could perform very well indeed if I where to play that to my advantage.

Thought about it, appreciate your concern, but bluntly I really don't give a fuck.

    Thanks buddy!

.com is really nice. Go use the one you use in current.

    Thanks.

    Current outlook:
    5 votes for Domain 1
    0 votes for Domain 2

Note to self: Why the hell didn't I make this thread a proper poll?

I suppose that it will be great to choose the domain that is as short, memorable as possible.

That's the exact problem, somewhat of a paradox.

One domain is short, and the other one is (possibly) more memorable (or is it?). So which one do I choose? :p

You better make up your mind already ! lol well I guess you already since you are using domain 1. If it was me searching to watch Beavis & Butthead I will def google watch beavis and butthead online. if you go with beavis and butthead then good luck competing with all the associated key words.

    Good luck.

Lol. I've pretty much (unofficially) chosen domain 1, although I'd much rather domain 2. Oh well, life goes on!

Thanks buddy, that's 6 votes in favour of domain 1 and 0 for domain 2. Open to the last couple of opinions, maybe someone can come in and totally tip the balance with some sort of counter argument, if not the deal is pretty much sealed.

    :)
