    Hi guys.

I'm starting a graphics portfolio website which I plan to use and update throughout my time at uni and other work outside of uni. It will mainly have graphics work and my photography work.

I currently have 2 domains which are unused - would any of these be suitable?

    1) www.benmdavies.com

I like this because it has my full name in the URL, but the only thing that puts me off is the fact that I had to use my middle name initial in the middle of it. Also my surname "Davies" can be spelt "Davis". But thinking about it further, the main way people would get to know my portfolio would be by an email/business card. Its not as if people are going to go on it from memory? Or am I wrong? :D

    2) www.psdworkshop.com

I also have this domain, I quite like it but not sure if it suits a graphics portfolio as alot of work I do is done in illustrator as well as photshop but is this really relevant?

    _____

Any opinions would be greatly appriciated! Which would you go for, or would you re-think and buy a new domain?

    Thanks!

i'd choose the first domain if i were you. the reason is that , it has your name like you said and its your portfolio so it should then be named after you. :D but if you are not using your real name online to get clients then you can choose any domain you'd like

Could you register a domain name like this: bendaviesgraphicsportfolio.com

My other thought would be to do keyword research on "graphics" related terms and register a domain name with those keywords in the domain as it helps you get ranked in the search engines. You want to use keywords that are searched for enough to be worthwhile and that will bring you targeted traffic (people interested in what your site is about), but not keywords that will be hard to rank well for (meaning there are way too many websites ranked in Google, etc. for those keywords). From my studies in the IM field, I would say to choose keywords that have less than 20,000 global searches a month, suggesting it will bring you traffic, but might be easier to rank for. You can use the free Google keyword tool if you want to use something that is free. I use it. I also use a tool called Market Samurai, which is widely regarded as one of the best keyword research tools around. It is a paid product, but this last time I checked, the product site was offering a free trial. You can also find discount codes for it by searching for "market samurai discount code"

I hope that helps. If you have a question, please feel free to let me know and I'll get back to you asap:) I am no expert, mind you, but I have been doing alot of research and reading on this subject, have studied with people who are considered gurus, and have done enough keyword research myself. Have a great day!
