Which country has the best beer, if so why? And what is it?

I reckon that that Austria has the best beer. In fact it was so good, I CANNOT even recall the name. It had a good head, was a little bit yeasty, quite clear.
    Can you name the beer?
Or is your beer even better?
IN which case please post me a can of your beer.

I drink it all the time, and I know it's crap. My favorite beers are from Germany, Ireland, Belgium, and Austria. It all depends on my mood or what I'm eating with it, etc. Once you drink the heavier European beers enough, the soft American beer tends to taste like flavored water.

It's not so much which country as which county. The best beer in the world is Harvey's Sussex Ale. This is going to sound strange to people like Americans and Australians but Harveys should be served at just a degree or below room temperature. A good pint of Harveys you can leave in your glass overnight and it will still taste just as good in the morning - no fizz to go flat.

We do have lager beers in England (Budweiser, Fosters, Castlemaine, etc) but they come under the heading of 'training' drinks, i.e. it's what children drink whilst they're working up to real beer.

Being from Belgium, I just have to reply and claim
that Belgium has the best beer.

The biggest brewer company from Belgium toke over
Inbev a couple of years ago.
Might be the biggest worldwide now.

We also have the monks who brew special beers etc.

But.... I'm not a beer drinker

    Forgot to mention:

When beer is exposed to sunlight the tast changes to
"horsepiss", a Belgian invented the solution to counter that.

    And that's a fact...

    Enjoy your beer guys!

I would have to say most beers from Germany and Belgium. I live in the USA and the really good beers are those made by the local Micro Breweries. You can get quality beer that mimic any of the old world beers from a good Micro Brewery.

Another vote for Belgium here. There's nothing quite like a cold Leffe :)

I've never tried Harvey's Sussex Ale even though I from Sussex....
