Get something with a good dual core processor, at least a gig of ram, and a decent video card. Get something you are comfortable with, I like to go to shops and test computers for myself. You will probably need Microsoft Office, or a free program similar to it. If you want to pay it will cost a lot, so ask for the student version. me only DELL

mmmm... Not really sure about that... My girlfriend bought one and has been having trouble with it since then... It crashes, and sometimes doesn't even have sound. I don't know if is because of the OS or the hardware itself.. Might be this only one defective. On the other hand, you get awesome support from HP.
Dell is quite good. Lenovo produce great machines. I Also personally use Dell no such issues I have found until now.
