I want to upload a cms on my site. the purpose of that site is to publish articles and news contents only. which cms system will best suit me. I was looking Jamoola, eZ Publish, PHP Nukes but they all looked complex for my requirement, is there any open source CMS system for simple functionalities like I mentioned above?
I would suggest you to use Joomla, as it has been widely used now & the development of joomla is going in full force
My relationship with Joomla is love/hate, however, I too would recommend Joomla. By default it is not SEO friendly, however it is a snap to make it SEF. I recommend installing the 404SEF component.
thanks alot guys but can any one tell from where I can get the user guide to use admin panel of Joomla. What components/modules I should install before making my site live, security and other modules; I am configuring the system locally on my machine before deploying on the server.
make some search in this section of DP and you will get loads of help / info on Joomla. Personally i use both joomla and drupal and prefer drupal more than joomla ( opinions can differ ).
Try website baker. www.websitebaker.org I use it on my sites and it seems good and easy to use. -Aditya
You asked for a simple CMS? Opposite of those big, complex CMSes? Then look at this post I just made: sNews 1.5 RC released -- More features, less code! I'd just suggest you go for the previous release (1.4) until this release candidate becomes a final version... sNews is a 'lite CMS' according to OpenSourceCMS.com and you can find them even more there if sNews doesn't suit you. But I encourage you to give it a try! And make sure to let us all know which one you chose at the end.
No love for Wordpress? I have been using it for a year and a half and have been very happy with it. Especially with the new wyswig version. And you can't beat the price.
Word press is wonderful I am using it, but its more supportive for Blogs. I don't think it will work for my needs I mentioned above, if it does that then its the wonderful thing i wish for. Let me know how I can use it for a news or articles?
I tried this and I think this will suit to my needs but I have to do some modification to accommodate my needs 100%.
I've just switched to Joomla.. and I love it already! I wonder why I put it off last year.. when I first touch Mambo it's complicated, yes! , but once you get the hang of it! it's just so configurable...
You check the templates section at http://addons.websitebaker.org There are some good looking templates available there. -Aditya
Out of the box WP is not a CMS, the more you know about templating the more you can make it 'look' like CMS.
In my books, a CMS means exactly what the acronym stands for -- a Content Management System. The system may be built to handle a specific task -- such as maintaining a personal journal or managing your family photos -- or accomodate a variety of needs, either by default and/or through extentions. What is a 'CMS' supposed to look like to you?
Well I've always seen somethink like mambo/joomla/seditio/drupal as a CMS, since it's a framework for the entire site and not built only for a specific purpose. Each of them have a possibility to be expanded to unimaginable systems. I've heard that they are developing WP into a full blown CMS though.
I love WP its awesone... and perfect for my small needs... joomla demands tooo much time.. which i dont have
Textpattern is worth looking at too. It's supposed to much easier to learn that Joomla. I put my first site up in a weekend with a little help from the forum.
