Which CMS for building a new ecommerce site, confused

    Hi all,

I think this is my first question in this forum. I want to build an ecommerce site. Please suggest a good CMS(must be free). I have in mind, oscommerce, virtuemart, but I am confused as which to use? What say guys.

Another small query. Is it compulsory to have a "contact us" page in an ecommerce site. I can put a form for that contact us page. But I don't want to share my address, so is it wise to just insert a contact us form???

    Thanks in advance

Rather then using some CMS you should use some specialized shopping cart script I've recently developed e-commerce enabled website for my client and output is like this http://www.tespi.agrians.com if you are willing to have a website like this one it'll cost you only $350 if you are willing contact via PM.

If you just wanna focus on e-commerce, try using CMS for e-commerce like osCommerce, OpenCart, ZenCart and many more, I suggest you use OpenCart
But if you want to combine your e-commerce site with your information site, try using Virtuemart

i've found zencart to be easier to use than oscommerce but it functions the same, and both are free. Zencart has templates you can use to make your store more unique too.

You can check out ours if you're interested - the CMS/hosting/management is free, and you can either add in paypal buttons yourself (free) or choose one of the two optional (subscription) services to integrate e-commerce automatically: "plus" or "e-commerce". The difference in fee structure for these two is related to the difference in back-office management functions (the latter giving full stock, client, shipping, billing etc. management tools).

Joomla + VirtueMart is a great combination according to me too... I have also used OpenCart in the past but between the two I prefer the first option. A friend of mine uses Magento and swears by it...
