which backlinks are helping my google rankings

    whenever I use an online tool to check my google backlinks, it shows 7 or 8.

    When I look in google webmaster tools under "pages with external links", it shows 588 back links.

    So which one is right?

    Google webmaster tool is right. Many online backlinks checker sites are not showing up backlinks. Also check ' yahoo site explore'. That shows all backlinks.

    If you want to see all the backlinks to your site you can also use yahoo backlinks tool

    I agree with you. Just check your site in yahoo site explorer - that is the best to show the total backlinks of your site.

    Ultimately, Google is the search engine we all want to crack & if it is telling you that you have 588 backlinks then "don't worry, be happy!"

    If it was the other way round, then I'd be concerned...;)

    i have trust on google webmaster tool so i am suggest you please follow google webmaster tool. and one thing you need to understand is that in SEO every tool is different for same work(purpose) so my advise is that use only one tool dn't change tool every time.

    Google webmaster Tools shows all the backlinks that google crawler has cached. But if you check through Google Toolbar it shows only those links that google thinks to be most relevant. My site has around 10000+ backlinks in Google Webmaster Tools but show only around 500 in Toolbar.
