You'll struggle to find one that renders readable text.

You're doing it wrong. No blog worth submitting content to is going to accept spun articles.

old school implies quality - spinning and quality have nothing in common

Write it yourself. Spun content is not much worthy now in these days.

Never used one, never will. The internet is already loaded with junk, and spun articles just add more very poor-quality junk. If I could be promoted to "World Wide Web Dictator," I would allow only original, high-quality articles to be posted.

I was using Interact Media or Zerys to hire writers to write content for me. I set a low price but if it was really good, I added a tip and then added them to my favorite writer board.

Don't try article spinner. It is completely useless and meaningless to read a spun article. Better write your own article, It will be more helpful to you. If you are not be able to write an article you can hire someone to write for you :)

If you want to see how fast your site will be deindexed...
then spin your content. You should write your own, or
outsource to a good writer, and this can be very costly...

not so much for those that already make money, and
can afford to outsource to good writers.

Quality can have a few definitions. You can have 300-500 words of plain text that is human readable...
however, is that really considered "quality" content, not so much when google runs across content
that has like 5000 words loaded with graphics, images, charts, and videos...

Which one do you think will get and maintain the highest ranking of the two?
Just because you can clearly read 300-500 words does not mean all that much
if your competitor is smoking you out of the water if he is using 1000's of words,
assuming his content is well written, and formatted properly with filler content...

I'd be reasonably confident that if I wrote something (I'm not a writer) and then spun it and asked 10 people in the mall to rate the two my version would come out on top.

Google has it's own view and is probably quite right to assume that an author who backs up a piece of writing with supporting images and video has more invested in the work and Google can, therefore, assume it is of better quality.

If manual checks on the algorithm show that it is being manipulated and spammed you can be sure that they'll be working on ways to mathematically challenge that assumption. One thing about the nerds at the search engines is that they're constantly fighting to stay ahead of the game. Must be a fascinating department to work in and I'd love to have the opportunity - however I suspect I'd need a PhD in applied maths before they'd even let me intern there.

I setup a web20 page on wordpress a few days ago, unique content, image or two, and at least
one video. The article itself has yet to be indexed, however, the privacy and legal pages have
indexed, and of course I made them with some type of privacy/legal generator...

Sometimes you just can not figure out google at all...

Maybe the blandness of privacy and about pages makes them easy boxes to tick (figuratively) and so they get processed by a different kind of algorithm and indexed. They won't turn up in the SERPs so they're low risk, if they get it slightly wrong it doesn't really matter.
