I want to have a brand and was looking to use some of these "secondary" ones as url forwarding....which one of those (or others) do you think are important to get?
will your brand be worldwide? i take .mobi and .tv if my name fits the extension... about ccTLDs i need the answer to my question i would have .com, .net, .org, .info and .us if i were based in the usa as i would take the ccTLD correspondent to the country i would live
Hi yes my brand will be worldwide I am based in Canada so .ca is the corresponding one What do .mobi and .tv fit with?
My selection for the best TLD for branding is arranged this way: Com Net Org Info Others just don't sound too professional for company names, except if for example your domain is based in USA, you can use .us or if it's based in Bulgaria, you can use .bg etc...
this is probably true. I'm guessing that in about 10-20 more years, handheld internet devices will probably be the next cell phone.
Even though mobile devices might be more popular, does that really mean that .mobi will be more popular? Why is .info popular?
Fingers crossed it is .Mobi Their has been a few, loosing faith and dumbing these, Lately this is been my domain of choice. So fingers crossed it rebounds and heads to the BANK. In other ways a good .TV is surprising everyone as well.
yes - because major corporations will promote their .mobi name for mobile usage, and it will become the new standard for this market. Therefore you're basically obliged to use it for your own services, too. [it would be like the .com of mobile devices]
ok thanks So I'm probably going to take .com, .net, .org, .mobi, .info, .tv, and my country one Do you guys think .cn is important even if we're not in China simply because it is the biggest country and have their own set of trademark laws?
IMO I don't think buying .cn for your site is necessary as long as your site is not targeted to chinese, because even chines would think first of domainname+com and not domainname+cn and you have the .com, so don't worry.
Yup, the .com is easier to remember and easier to type on a mobile device. In the end, it would depend on what your purposes are. If you just want to register TLD which your customers would most likely type in then chances are the above TLD would not be in the regular person's mind. However if your purpose is to protect your namesake from being used then register as many TLDs as possible would be a good idea. Although there is no restriction as to how you can use the various TLDs, the .info may be appropriate for a non-commercial purpose. The .mobi for mobile related websites (info or access), .tv for online or offline tv sites.
That's sort of my concern, but if I brand my website, then wouldn't it be trademarked? Thus, if someone used my name for a commercial site, then it would be infringement. Although I don't know if it's a long drawn out process to stop them. It would be like if someone registered digitalpoint.xyz, I think it would be illegal for them to try to use it as a real site. I understand the .tv one, but the other ones strike me as weird, particularly .mobi. I still don't get it. Sure, if I was running a cell phone business or selling ringtones then I'd get mobi. Otherwise, why would anyone want to brand their site .mobi instead of .com? Would a person on their cell phone really rather type in google.mobi or youtube.mobi instead of their .com names?
