If you just want solely to sell something online, not plus blogging or social networking, then OSCommerce would be ok. And If you want to selling plus blogging - to marketing your products at the same time, then you can try wordpress+ecommerce plugin or Joomla+Virtuemart solution. Hope that helps.
I agree with the response above, it depends on your requirements. What kind of store do you plan to build?
Zeuscart is the best one among all shopping cart software. Zeuscart open source e-commerce shopping cart software provide a good support and secure services.
OSCommerce is probably the best for a pure ecommerce site. If your online store is to be embedded within a news or information based site, then I would recommend a hybrid of Joomla and Virtuemart.
Magento is best by far a free ecommerce software, you can intergrate wordpress, sell download products and its well set up for SEO with url rewrites and meta tags and so on... but out of the box it looks fab compared with the like of osC..
I prefer PrestaShop. the best i ever try. why? it's clean, good lookin, and SEO Optimized. also FREE.
Try Shopify, IMO personal experience for starter Shopify > Magento For pros - high traffic sites Magento > Shopify
We did an overview of some popular pros and cons of each. I think it would be useful for you to take a look at it. http://feedgrowth.com/idea-categories/e-commerce/recap-from-our-top-ten-e-commerce-platforms-and-tools-meetup/ We didn't include osCommerce because it is a bit outdated and there are newer platforms. However, osCommerce is still a great tool that's easy to use with a large community.

Hi guys, Thanks for this information. I have installed oscommerce but i dont know how can we edit and change template. Please help me. i have one question more, I want to find some product to sell through my website. Is there any network, similar to affiliate network?
there are many sites that have good oscommerce templates just look up oscommerce templates on a search engine. You can also pay someone to create you a custom one or even do it yourself it is really easy just ftp the images folder to your hard drive open all the images up in photoshop and edit them and upload them back to the server.
I would choose virtuemart over Oscommerce .Oscommerce is out of date and needs a lot of modifying to have some basic features. Depending on your experience I would prefer Magento over them all because is full of features and easy to use once set up.
You should definately choose VirtueMart, the product is very stable, the support is great and is integrated in Joomla, one of the best CMS out there.
After checking it out, I'm hooked on Magento... go get it now if your trying to start an E-Commerce store.
The type of question your asking is all based on your needs. I have a site built right now that is a pretty basic layout. However, I also need shopping cart to integrate into my website. With that being said, I needed to find a shopping cart script that had a lot of features, but also easy to config and edit all the CSS and php code. I have downloaded them ALL. PrestaShop Magento OScommerce ZenCart X-Cart The one I picked was OScommerce. I find editing the PHP the easiest out of all of them. Magento and PrestaShop are AMAZING shopping cart solutions, however, it was difficult to change around the php to where it matches my original layout. Do not be affraid to download them all and try them out. Make sure what you want to do, these can do. My needs are much different than yours. I am selling maybe 20 items, however, you customize those 20 items to the way you want them so the cart needs to do that. OScommerce has a HUGE community and great addons. It may be out-dated when you install it, but you can spruce it up really easily. Whatever your decision is, good luck.
