I am using Avast! free edition and I think it is lean and fast enough for me.

For the best, unbiased antivirus comparisons check out www.av-comparatives.org and decide for yourself which virus protection you want to use. Personally I use NOD32. NOD and Kaspersky are the only av's currently with an Advanced+ rating for both the most recent on-demand and retrospective tests.

+Agree with your friends. It is a useless AV. I had 1 problem once and my whole pc crashed.. From that day i never used it again. :)

Between AVG and Firefox, I've never had any problems. Granted, I tend to stick to trusted sites. No porn downloads, no P2P sites, etc. LOL

Give detailed look into virus scanners. On which might be more effective than others. I currently Like using Nod32 since it doesn't use much resource only thing it lacks is Firewall.

NOD32 3.0 already has a firewall. Take a look at Eset Smart Security suite (NOD32+Firewall).

The best antivirus software IMO is McAfee Enterprise edition. Light weight and great protection. Don't mess with the home/personal versions, go Enterprise!

ESET NOD32 all the way. Great detection rate and extremely small footprint.

Never heard of ESET before this - well there is another one recommended by PC vendor to me couple of weeks ago. It's call RISING. Gee.. it's a Chinese product. Any comment about it?

Clamwin is a must as a secondary antivirus. It is opensource, uses the clamav database and also has a portable version.
