If you are talking about ads format then i will suggest you a top banner ad and then 336 rectangular some where in between the content.

Gamers are a testy bunch - fickle, easily annoyed by ads, and very vocal. It will be interesting to see how Google integrates into that culture. so you should try pictures add and in vertical and rectangular shapes in start and middle of your gaming portal page

Gaming is variable. It depends on the niche. Xbox and PS3 are always hot

I think I agree with all you here, Adsense is the best, I mean Google adsense, but actually I don'tlike their payment option, hope that google accept paypal in the future (which is impossible)

For the ads format, it is also great idea to use Ads-link-units, just PM me if you need a guidance and example
