Which accounting package is right for a webmaster / forum owner.

So, I've got a few websites that have adsense / adsdaq / a few other type of ads on them. I've also got some ebay affiliate sites. I don't really have customers buying my stuff, it's just me making sites.

What accounting software should I use? I've been excel up to now, and it's not cutting it. I've tried a demo of quickbooks plus online, and it was geared around customers and selling items - I think I'd really have to stretch to make the software fit my business.

What else does everyone use? Peachtree, freshbook, something else?

My old accountant swore by Peachtree and we used it for two years (I never touched it personally - didn't handle our books then). After starting my new business I started on Quicken Home & Business. Not as much to offer as QuickBooks but if you're sole owner it should offer enough at a better price. It also syncs with PayPal (just one account - and not exactly a bang up job of it either but it's better than nothing...)

If you plan on doing all taxes yourself I would check out the demos + trial products from MS Money, Quicken, QuickBooks, Peachtree, etc. and decide what works for you.

I did a demo of quickbooks, but it was overkill for me. i just want something really simple that will keep track of expenses and income, separated by website. I have a feeling that quicken business may be the ticket, however I was hoping to find an online product

I found the perfect software for what I was trying to do - Quickbooks Simple Start 2009. It's a really easy to use software that keeps track of payments and debits, vendors and customers, and the best part yet - it's free! It's kind of a gateway software, hoping to get you hooked so you have to eventually get the hard stuff, like quickbooks pro.

I would be a little wary of storing all my tax info online, as convenient as it might be. Quicken home & business is worth a look.
