Any type of sitemap should do you fine, usually use the one that has the most downloads as it probably does things better.

I agree with danger9918, All in One SEO pack is a must (unless you have Thesis) and google sitemap generator, don't forget ping optimizer to avoid self pinging of your blog's updates, otherwise, your site ping will be flagged as a spam.

Browse in my sitemap page, i have lots of video tutorials, and they are free.

WP Plugins that could help you:
    Sitemaps: Google XML sitemaps
For SEO: All in One SEO Pack

Bust just these wont get you far. To generate a good number of visitors, make sure you make unique and quality content. Content is definitely king. Then do tweet/digg it. Once people find out that you have quality content, they'll RT/blog it. Watch your traffic grow.

Also, try installing Google Analytics code to you blog. Analyze what's been bringing in more visitors. Blog more about that.

Good advice here so far. These are definitely some of the vital plugins to get you started, but don't start to think there will be a magic way to get a ton of interested visitors to your site. You need quality content as thinkdj said. At least until the day they roll out the "Well-written 500 word unique article generator" plugin...:)

Plugins are usually better for keeping visitors on your site and referring them to other interesting blogs. For example I use a few widgets that highlight the most popular blogs on my site, related blogs to each other, and highlight my most recent blogs.

There are some plugins such as the ones that have already been mentioned that will definitely help SEO such as All-In-One-SEO and Google Site Maps. I have a list of SEO plugins that I use that I posted on my blog today. You can follow my signature to view it.
